COMPENSATION

The current minimum salary is $ 29.103254 per hour for a 40-hour week increasing to

$41.576077 per hour in the sixth year of service. These rates are subject to change as per the Sheet Metal Air Rail Transportation (S.M.A.R.T) Collective Bargaining Agreement. The benefits of this position include, but are not limited to, paid holidays, vacation and sick leave, and a comprehensive medical plan and pension plan.

Current rate has been established by the S.M.A.R.T Union and is non-negotiable.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Candidates are required to pass respective examinations related to their craft,

including but not limited to: Roadway Workers Protection (RWP), Book of Rules, etc. Failure to pass any examination may result in termination. New employees may not be eligible for certain benefits until they meet specified service requirements in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

This position is a progressively responsible position. The selected incumbent will be hired and serve as a Signal Helper for a period of 1 year in which they will be training for the position of Assistant Signal Maintainer working under the direction of a Signal Maintainer or an Assistant Signal Maintainer and will be ineligible for transfer to another department. Upon successful completion of one (1) year service and having passed the written and or practical examination the selected incumbent will progress into the title of Assistant Signal Maintainer 1st year and will serve in this title for 2 (two) years before progressing into the Signal Maintainer title and will be ineligible for transfer to another department.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • One (1) year of full-time experience as a Helper in the electrical, electronic, or electromechanical trade or

  • A vocational high school diploma or trade school certificate in the electrical or electronic field.

  • Valid Motor Vehicle Driver License.

  • Basic knowledge of electrical theory including Ohm’s Law.

  • Ability to use a digital multi-meter. Able to use various hand tools and power equipment/drills.

DESIRED SKILLS

  • The ability to read and understand electrical drawings and knowledge of Programmable Logic Computers (PLC).

  • Previous Signal related experience or completion of Classroom Signal Training which was sponsored by a qualified organization.

SELECTION METHOD

Based on evaluation of education. skills, experience, and interview.

All appointments, with the exception of the Department of Subways employees on MABSTOA payroll, will be made on the SIRTOA payroll.
