Job Description
The Financial Aid Associate II, under general supervision, assists in the overall processes surrounding the application, processing, and awarding of financial aid and scholarships. The Financial Aid Associate II assists staff and student workers with processing questions. Work hours are Mon-Fri 8:00am-5:00pm or as work requirements indicate with occasional before/after hours during peak times, as well as occasional Saturday events.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Functional Area 1: Financial Aid Processing 45%
Responsible for processing financial aid consortium agreements with partner community colleges. Collaborates with Office of Registrar for timely processing and disbursement of aid. Performs outreach to students missing necessary components.
Awards students in specialized financial aid programs, such as Nursing Students Scholarship and Texas First Scholarship programs.
Responsible for tasks on Processing Daily Audit Report to review and determine student aid eligibility. Performs outreach as necessary to students with missing information.
Daily packaging reports for spring and summer terms.
Processes Ad Hoc reports, drop for non-payment and cancellation of pre-registration workflows, and other reports as needed.
Processor of the Week duties: answering fa_help emails, online loan revision requests, book loans.
Adheres to federal, state, and institutional regulations for compliance.
Functional Area 2: Scholarship Processing 45%
Responsible for tasks on Scholarship Daily Audit Report to review and determine student scholarship eligibility. Performs outreach as necessary to students with missing information.
Performs reviews of scholarship recipients at the end of each term to verify continuing eligibility of scholarship award. Notifies students of probationary or cancellation status and makes adjustments as needed on their financial aid package.
Maintains and uses scholarship software for all aspects of scholarship awarding. Pulls reports to identify non-disbursed scholarships and corrects/cancels awards accordingly. Also, does communications for students with scholarships not meeting disbursement requirements. Tracks and documents exceptions due to graduation status or other special circumstances.
Functional Area 3: Enrollment Support and Other duties 10%
Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Student Financial Aid, Director of Scholarships, and Assistant Director of Financial Aid.
Other duties as assigned, including assisting with student traffic via phone, email, appointments, and events.
Required Education and Experience:
Associate's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Three years of related experience
Preferred Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
At least o ne year of related experience in higher education. Experience in financial aid and scholarships is preferred.
Experience with Banner Student Information system and NextGen Scholarship software is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to meet deadlines and maintain a high level of accuracy, professionalism and a customer service mindset.
Knowledge of financial aid rules and regulations.
Working knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet programs.
Ability to work individually or as a team in a dynamic organization.
Good interpersonal communication skills.
Must be literate in the English language and able to comprehend, give, and follow both written and verbal instructions.
Ability to organize and make decisions.
Ability to work well under pressure.
Ability to use tact, diplomacy, and judgment in dealing with all customers.
Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
Salary:
Commensurate with experience
The target base hourly compensation is $20.03 and may be negotiable based on funding availability and candidate experience/skillset in relation to the minimum requirements of this position.
