Jefferson County Job and Family Services JCDJFS - Children Services (Intake and Ongoing Caseworker) in Steubenville, Ohio

Duties include but not limited to: Investigate all complaints received pertaining to child abuse/neglect (e.g., hospital, Doctors, neighbors, school, law enforcement agencies, homes, bars, etc.) verifying that information received is valid; analyze data; decides what action is needed (dismiss complaint or recommend active status); if facts warrant, remove child from parents of home immediately (due to danger to health and/or safety of child) Contacts/works with law enforcement agencies in removal process; works with children's home, foster care, relatives to determine and verify proper placement; assures child is clean and feed and placed I acceptable environment; transport child to ensure that all immediate needs are taken care of (clothing, medical, etc.) investigates and visits as necessary out of county situations involving cases; provides short term family case work services and counseling as appropriate. Meets procedural deadlines set by State of Ohio/courts/local policy.

Performs legal services as needed or required (e.g., custody, changes to be filed, if any); attend hearings, confer with prosecutor, attorney and judge; prepare reports; case plans and presentations to the courts as to how it will resolve the problem(s) involved; prepare and present testimony as requested. Prepare applications for or obtain various documents of assistance (e.g., ADC-FC, S.S., birth certificates, death records, marriage records, health records, etc.)

Prepares and maintains all documents generated by case activities (e.g., case records, Ohio Registry, Title XX Forms, ADC-FC forms, social history, admissions & discharges, consent and visitations forms, home studies, etc.) Attends workshops, seminars to enhance personal knowledge of social service techniques and methods. Continuing education as required. Performs "on-call duties" (home and office) as scheduled (weekends, holidays, after hours) to resolve and problems that occur or emergencies that arise; help in resolving child abuse/neglect situations or preventions.

*Qualifications: *A bachelor's degree in human services (social services) and or related studies; a bachelor's degree in related field and employed in field or related experience for at least two years (one year as a Social Service Worker "I"; or employed for at least three years in a human service field with degree subject matter that meets State specifications for a Social Service Worker II in a Children Service environment. Must have a valid driver's license/dependable transportation/county required auto insurance coverage/pass complete background check (FBI & BCI). NOTE: If course work claimed to meet qualifications, documentation from the school must be provided. (School must be an accredited acceptable institution); INTERNAL candidates in case of promotion, duties must be in actual preparation for the higher position. Promotions could be subject to possible loss of certified status. POSITION could expose an individual to clients and situations that could have various health/mental/physical/medical/ or emotional problems present.
