JOB REQUIREMENTS: UW JOB ID: 21093 TTC Title and Code: Medical Lab Scientist II (HS094) FTE: 100% Principal Work Location: UW-Stevens Point Main Campus Supervisor: Helen Luce, Director Position Summary The Medical Laboratory Scientist II performs a variety of laboratory tests on clinical specimens to support the professional medical staff of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP) Student Health Service. The Medical Laboratory Scientist II must be American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) board certified as medical technologist/clinical laboratory scientist/medical laboratory scientist. Medical Laboratory Scientist II is responsible for laboratory operations including but not limited to: quality control/quality assurance, proficiency testing, training of laboratory personnel, ordering of laboratory supplies and equipment, instrument maintenance, Department of Health Services (DHS) lab survey inspection, and patient testing in the following areas: hematology, microbiology, urinalysis, chemistry, and waived testing. Minimum five years\' experience working in a clinical lab. Knowledge of the principles of chemistry, bacteriology, serology, hematology, parasitology, and waived testing. Experience working with an electronic medical record and/or laboratory information system. Ability to perform venipuncture and capillary punctures. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clinicians, nursing staff, other co-workers, patients, and reference laboratories. Ability to effectively operate complex laboratory instruments. Ability to perform complex laboratory work independently and to conduct assigned research. Knowledge of quality control, quality assurance, and statistics used in the laboratory. Working knowledge of Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act (CLIA) guidelines and Code of Federal Regulations part 493 Preferred Qualifications Minimum two years experience working as a supervisor/manager in a clinical lab. Knowledge of identification methods performed on aerobic bacteria isolated from patient specimens. Knowledge of the performance of antimicrobial susceptibility tests performed on bacteria.
