Career Opportunity (Job Summary):
The Stevenson Alabama Mill manufactures corrugated medium and is one of North America\u2019s largest fully integrated semi-chemical pulp and paper mill. Stevenson Alabama is centrally located between Chattanooga, Tennessee and Huntsville, Alabama. The Stevenson Mill overlooks the beautiful Tennessee River, and the mountains and lakes in the surrounding area offer plenty of outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, boating, and hiking. A short drive to either Huntsville or Chattanooga offers a variety of restaurants, nightlife, museums, concerts, shopping, or other interests.
Reporting to the Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor, the primary functions of the mechanical maintenance journeyman mechanic include, but are not limited to, troubleshooting, inspecting, repairing, and maintaining production and process equipment in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, and manufacturer's specifications.
How you will impact WestRock (Principle Responsibilities):
Read and examine blueprints, engineering drawings, and process and instrument diagrams.
Understand and switch back and forth between the metric and English measuring system.
Carry out tasks, which require a sequence of steps, and deal with upset conditions that may affect or modify normal operational parameters.
Select and properly use personal protective equipment according to the specific hazard or hazards in accordance with Department requirements.
Don and work in respiratory equipment including Self Contained Breathing Apparatus which may be required to respond to emergency conditions.
Operate a Bobcat loader, lift truck, aerial lifts, scissors lifts, chains and hoists, oxygen/acetylene rigs.
Apply welding skills including SMAW, TIG, MIG, pipefitting, pipe fabrication and repair.
Operate lathes, milling machines, drill presses, and other basic shop equipment with precision.
Rigging and hoisting including safe load calculation. Be familiar with hand signals, slings, cables, chokers, and shackles.
Compliance with safety regulations with emphasis on energy isolation, lockout/tagout, confined space entry, and line breaking procedures.
Have sufficient troubleshooting skills to help identify mechanical issues.
Train apprentices and other employees as required.
What you need to succeed
High School Diploma or GED equivalent
Full working knowledge of millwright, pipe fitter, metal worker, and mechanic trades including proper tool usage, lubrication, drive components, v-belt drives, chain drives, speed reducers, bearings, pumps, piping systems, basic arc welding and burning, hydraulics, and troubleshooting techniques obtained through a combination of experience and on the job training.
