The Research Foundation for The State University of New York at Stony Brook Postdoctoral Associate in Stony Brook, New York

Required Qualifications: (as evidenced by an attached resume)
Doctoral Degree or foreign equivalent degree (in hand by the start of the position) in the areas of population, evolutionary or ecological genetics or a closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in processing 2nd generation sequencing data.

Population genetic analysis experience.

Wet lab experience.

Experience of python or equivalent programming languages.

Excellent writing skills as demonstrated by peer- reviewed scientific manuscripts.

Brief Description of Duties:
The Postdoctoral Associate will assist the Principal Investigator
Dr. Krishna Veeramah and the Veeramah Lab in the department of Ecology & Evolution. The individual's primary tasks will be to generate sequencing data from stickleback fish and perform population genetic analysis of this data. They will be expected to work closely with the Wund Lab and assist in mentoring undergraduate students from TCNJ during the summer as part of the RUI award. As well as primary research duties applicants will be expected to write papers, help in grant writing and train/mentor graduate students. There will be opportunities to perform fieldwork. The incumbent will conduct research and ensure that all experiments are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University.

Generate sequencing data from stickleback fish collected by collaborator Wund

Perform population genetic analysis of this data to examine questions related to phenotypic plasticity and evolution

Manuscript preparation including manuscript writing, editing, and figure preparation. May also assist in grant writing.

Training/mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in analysis of 2nd generation sequencing data for population genetics.

Other duties as assigned, which may include attending Scientific Conferences and Meetings.

The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
