Stony Brook University Postdoctoral Associate in Stony Brook, New York
The C.N. Yang Institute for Theoretical Physics (YITP) at Stony Brook University anticipates filling one or more postdoctoral research appointments in theoretical physics, with anticipated appointment dates of September 1, 2025. Appointments are normally for three years.
Research fields currently represented at the YITP include, but are not limited to, particle theory, cosmology, quantum field theory, string theory, condensed matter, statistical mechanics, and quantum information theory. The Institute has a tradition of collaboration with the Departments of Physics and Astronomy and of Mathematics and the Simons Center for Geometry and Physics at Stony Brook and with Brookhaven National Laboratory.
Required Qualifications: (as evidenced by an attached resume)
Completion of all requirements for a doctoral degree or foreign equivalent in theoretical physics or closely related field, with a record of independent research.
Preferred Qualifications:
Research experience in one or more subfields currently represented in the YITP (particle theory, cosmology, quantum field theory, string theory, condensed matter, statistical mechanics, and quantum information theory).
Brief Description of Duties:
The Postdoctoral Associate will conduct research in the field of Postdoctoral Associate's choice in theoretical physics in the C,N, Yang Institute for Theoretical Physics (YITP) in Stony Brook University. The incumbent will conduct research following the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University.
- Conduct research in the field of the Postdoctoral Associate's choice in quantum field theory, string theory, particle theory, cosmology, condensed matter, statistical mechanics, and quantum information theory or related subjects.
- May Collaborate with senior members of the YITP working in the same field as well as in other educational institutes.
- May present in seminars based on the Postdoctoral Associate's work during academic year. Occasional travel to present research results or collaborate on institute-sponsored research and other duties aimed at professional development.
- Other duties as assigned.

Special Notes:
This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
