Stony Brook University Postdoctoral Associate in Stony Brook, New York

Required Qualifications: (as evidenced by an attached resume)

Doctoral Degree (or foreign equivalent) in Geosciences or a closely related field degree in hand by date of hire, preferably on or before July 1, 2024.

Experience in processing polar geophysical (seismic; radar; gravity; etc.) data.

Record of publications in the polar geophysical fields.

Coding capability in one of the major languages.

Experience in machine learning and deep learning and their applications in solving geophysical problems.

Ability to effectively collaborate in a multidisciplinary research team.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ph.D. degree in the related field of Geophysics or Glaciology.

Experience in tools such as UNIX and seismology related tools (e.g., obspy).

Knowledge in seismic instrumentations and data processing flow.

Experiences in deploying, servicing, and retrieving seismic or other geophysical stations.

Willing to travel to remote areas to collect more seismic or other geophysical data


Brief Description of Duties:
The Postdoctoral Associate will assist the Principal Investigator
in the . The incumbent will conduct specialized research with the PI following the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University.

Analyze the broadband and nodal data collected across the world including from the polar regions.

Developing new seismic tomographic and data processing methods as well as other geophysical techniques.

Working on the field project and documenting the result.

Teaching/mentoring through the interaction with grad/undergrad students at the department.

Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.

Special Notes:
This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
