Northrop Grumman Defense Systems (NGDS) is seeking a Modeling & Simulation (M&S) Systems Software Analyst with a focus on testing to support our Joint Staff J7 Team in Suffolk, Virginia .

The selected candidate will support a unique Joint Staff capability which includes the installation, integration, testing, evaluation, and synchronization of simulations and gaming tools used in future immersive training capabilities for Joint Training Exercises and Experiments. As member of the Joint Staff J7 team, the M&S Systems Software Analyst will provide the primary capability for the military models and simulations used in computer-assisted joint and combined exercises and rehearsals.

Responsibilities:

  • Configures software/hardware, operation, troubleshooting, and analysis of modeling and simulation software and operational computer systems

  • Serves as simulation technical controller for JSJ7 exercises using components of the Joint Live Virtual Construction (JLVC) Federation, and/or Joint Theater Level Simulation (JTLS) locally or distributed to remote locations

  • Coordinates with simulation developers to perform simulation/model software upgrades and system performance troubleshooting/analysis as required

  • Provides technical support to users

  • Monitors system effectiveness in satisfying user’s needs

  • Assists the test managers in test case development

  • Assists the database managers in database refinement

  • Assists in coordination of the model assessment/acceptance tests

  • Participates in exercises as an I/C to understand model use during exercises

  • Assists in the design of simulations supported training events, data base design, data base build, and the stimulation of logistics, sustainment, transportation and medical C4I processes

  • Leverages an understanding of operational force structure, simulation training design, exercise objectives, operational plans, and implications of staff planning

  • Develops internal technical operating processes and manages technical operations for some of the following simulations utilized at JSJ7 Suffolk including but not limited to: the Joint Theater Level Simulation (JTLS), Joint Conflict and Tactical Simulation (JCATS), Joint Deployment Logistics Model (JDLM) standalone, JDLM in a DESS federated environment, Air Force Synthetic Environment for Reconnaissance and Surveillance/Multiple Unified Simulation Environment (AFSERS/MUSE), JCATS Low Overhead Driver (JLOD), Low Overhead Training System (LOTS), or other simulations/federations as required

Basic Qualifications:

  • One of the following:

  • High school diploma or GED with a minimum of 6 years of computer science (CS), engineering, or related technical experience in the military and/or defense industry

  • Bachelor’s degree in CS, engineering, or related technical discipline with a minimum of 2 years of technical experience in the military and/or defense industry

  • Master’s degree in CS, engineering, or related technical discipline

  • Strong computer and networking skills background.

  • Experience with REDHAT/LINUX operating system (Command line experience in addition to GUI experience preferred)

  • Experience with simulation operations and management

  • Intermediate level understanding of file management structures related to simulations

  • Willing to temporarily work 12 hours shifts running assigned simulations in support of Joint Exercises

  • Able to effectively interact with customers

  • Able to work in a collaborative troubleshooting environment

  • Able to travel to JCATS/JTLS international users conferences, or JELC events as requested by M&S/C4I Planner

  • Must possess an active U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance

  • Must possess or be able to obtain a valid U.S. Passport

  • Must be willing and able to travel both CONUS and OCONUS as needed (up to 25% of the time)

  • Must be able to work on-site in Suffolk, Virginia

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience operating JTLS or JLVC simulations (JCATS, JLOD, MUSE/AFSERS, AWSIM, LOTS)

  • Knowledge in Military logistics (deployment, movement, and sustainment operations)

  • Knowledge of military systems; equipment; and tactics; techniques; and procedures (TTP).

  • Knowledge of JIRA

  • Experience in programming languages: C++, Extensible Markup Language (XML), Java, MySQL, or other current programming languages.

  • Familiar with C2 systems

  • Familiar with the Joint Exercise Life Cycle

  • CompTIA Security+ CE certification

Salary Range: $79,300 - $118,900

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
