ASRC Federal Holding Company GOES/SWFO Satellite Engineer Intern in Suitland, Maryland
SUMMARY
ASRC Federal Data Network Corporation is seeking a GOES/SWFO Satellite Engineer Intern to work a full year term. Within the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellites (GOES) satellite constellation engineering group and Space Weather Follow-On (SWFO) group, as part of the Engineering and Mission Operations Support Services VI (EMOSS-VI) contract, this position working from the Suitland, MD and Greenbelt, MD locations require proven education and experience to demonstrate capacity to perform GOES satellite engineering at a high-performance level. Our client is responsible for engineering and mission operations support for environmental monitoring satellites managed by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Office of Satellite and Product Operations (OSPO).
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
The GOES/SWFO Satellite Engineer Intern will perform duties as assigned. Applicant will gain detailed knowledge and skill to perform assigned satellite operations disciplines. Specific tasks include, but are not limited to:
Perform operational validation of flight operations products such as command procedures, telemetry displays, trend plots
Verification of mission operations plans and procedures
Operational validation of the ground segment, including interface tests, end-to-end tests and mission simulations
Analyze short term and long term trending to detect potential problems with the spacecraft or instruments
Perform real time troubleshooting and analysis during anomalies, including real-time problem identification and resolution, support in case of any in-orbit anomaly and participate in the investigation of satellite anomalies
Propose new or execute improvements to tools that will increase long-term reliability, monitoring, and anomaly detection capability
Develop and improve products used to command, control, communicate and monitor the spacecraft
Develop changes to flight and mission operations products based upon changes to spacecraft configuration
Support various ground system software testing and verifications
Provision of on-call support to real-time operations
Preparation of regular reports and liaison with internal and external personnel
Coordinate and perform training of NOAA personnel

Experience: 0 years
Education: Sophomore or Junior year in pursuit of a Bachelor's Degree in relevant field
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Must be able to work at least 20 hours per week during normal business hours, Monday through Friday.
Work location is on-site at the Suitland, MD NOAA Satellite Operations Facility (NSOF). Some work from home possible, if schedule and remote access allows.
Work a full year term.
Desired Qualifications :
Understanding of satellite ground systems and flight operations
Linux experience
Familiarity with simulator configuration and operation
Some programming experience
High interest in aerospace engineering
Internship, course work/projects in space dynamics, satellite remote sensing are a big plus
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
- Work in typical office building during a standard 40-hour week. Twenty four hour on-call for satellite and ground system emergencies. Occasional deadlines or operational conditions require non-standard hours and longer hours.
