Continental Internal or External - Mold Ice Blast Operator – Curing/Mold in Sumter, South Carolina

Continental Tire has been around for over 150 years, we’ve been changing the way the world moves while making it more safe, smart, sustainable and accessible to all. Our Sumter, SC location is seeking a Mold Ice Blast Operator to join our Curing/Mold department.

THE POSITION

  • Must be able to read specs, know all mold parts and tooling used in the mold shop, operate curing presses, and follow safety and quality standards

  • Responsible for mold preventative maintenance, including: mold visual inspections, tire inspections, mold and tooling cleaning, vent replacement and checks, ultra-sonic as needed, and date plug replacement

  • Must have basic mechanical and computer skills, good communication, troubleshooting, and critical thinking skills, attention to detail, and must be able to work as part of a team, be self-motivated/self-managed

  • Initiate corrective and preventive actions as related to mold performance and perform tooling maintenance

  • Must be able to read/receive and understand written/oral instructions as to specs, procedures, tolerances, engineered drawings (or can be trained how to), basic dimensioning, and various construction and quality requirements

  • Must be able to follow instruction, standard practices, plant safety policies, environmental policies, and 5S standards

  • Read specifications, use hand tools

  • React quickly to equipment downtime or other extraordinary condition, and must notify supervision whenever such conditions occur

  • Notify management of any conditions that adversely affect product quality

  • Follow the internal ESH work instructions in the daily work

  • Demonstrate exemplary personal behavior in ESH and motivate others

  • Ensure immediate notification and response, and initiate preventive measures in case of unsafe or polluting hazards

  • Supports the Continental Business System (CBS ) structure by participating in the applicable CBT meeting, reviewing and managing his/her/team performance, conducting simple problem-solving using action sheets, identifying and implementing improvement opportunities, participating in the CBT reviews, and taking ownership for presented parts of the team boards

  • Other duties as required or assigned

Job Requirements

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or GED

  • One or more years’ experience in manufacturing environment or other relevant experience

  • Must be able to work 12 hour 2-2-3 pattern (panama) shift 6:45-7:00 including every other weekend

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. Continental is not able to offer visa support.

  • Continental is not able to pay relocation expenses for this opportunity.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to frequently bend, climb, kneel, and lift up to 85 pound in a hot environment

  • Ability to stand for long periods of time

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current Continental Sumter Employee

  • Prior relevant tooling and mold experience

  • Vocational or post-secondary mechanical training
