Meta Structural/Thermal Simulation Engineer in Sunnyvale, California

Summary:

As a Structural/Thermal Simulation Engineer, you will take a critical role in developing future generation AR Systems. You will become part of a team bringing new concepts through the prototyping stages all the way to mass production. A wide range of approaches will be used combining electrical, mechanical, and optical techniques. We want people who work well in teams, can brainstorm big ideas, work in new technology areas, are able to drive a concept into a prototype and then mature the design to high-volume consumer product solutions. We are looking for an engineer with a productive mindset that can use structural and thermal simulations to improve and optimize opto-mechanical designs. Our ideal candidate has a strong structural and thermal engineering foundation, FEA and CFD tool fluency, mechanical design knowledge, and experience analyzing and optimizing consumer electronics for structural and thermal performance.

Required Skills:

Structural/Thermal Simulation Engineer Responsibilities:

  1. Define and drive the simulation of structural and thermal loads on AR products and subassemblies.

  2. Turn the simulation results into mechanical designs and design improvements that benefit the entire product.

  3. Work with material and test teams to verify and model match simulations to material properties and reliability test results.

  4. Collaborate across functions to identify risks and develop a plan to simulate, quantify, test, and mitigate the risks.

  5. Advance team capabilities by bringing rigorous analysis into the design team.

  6. International and or Domestic travel up to 10%.

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.

  2. 5+ years of experience building structural, thermal, and CFD models using common commercial simulation tools.

  3. Solid understanding of and experience matching thermal models to empirical results.

  4. Experience defining and performing structural and thermal testing to validate models.

  5. Experience coordinating simulations with a cross functional team on fast moving projects.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. MS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.

  2. Experience in feeding thermal model results into structural models to determine optical component movements/deformations (STOP analysis).

  3. Experience defining and conducting tests on material properties for optimizing structural and thermal models, including nonlinear materials.

  4. Knowledge of common optical display system specifications and optical component specifications.

  5. Experience simulating drop tests with nonlinear materials and matching model results to test results.

  6. Knowledge of injection molding, casting, forming and other high volume fabrication methods.

  7. Experience in 3D design modeling (NX and/or SolidWorks).
