This position will play a critical role within the Global Shared Services Line of Business Compliance Organization leading a team of compliance professionals to effectively support the Enterprise Digital & Data Solutions (EDDS) business. The position will build, manage, and lead an effective framework for compliance with applicable laws and regulations. In addition to the products owned by EDDS, including Digital Acquisition Platforms, Marketing Platforms and Capabilities, and Data Warehouses, additional focus will be dedicated to new product development, risk management initiatives, process control, customer communications and complaints.

In addition to leading and supporting an effective compliance risk management oversight program for the EDDS business unit, this position will provide risk management advisory services to promote safe & scalable innovation across the enterprise. This is a highly visible and strategic position with significant and regular interaction with senior leaders across the company.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Regulatory Risk Management subject matter expertise for EDDS business partners

  • Provide solution-oriented compliance support to assist the team in reaching their goals while meeting compliance requirements

  • Review proposed materials and strategies to effectively mitigate compliance risks

  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with business partners and internal collaborators (e.g. other Global Risk and Compliance colleagues, General Counsel Office, Operational Excellence, Independent Compliance Testing, Privacy, Internal Audit Group)

  • Oversee and maintain a robust control environment to monitor third-party risk

  • Manage an effective Compliance program, including overseeing the Annual Compliance Plan (ACP), Compliance Risk Assessment (CRA), Business Unit Compliance Assessments (BUCA) and issue management processes

  • Assist internal partners with regulatory examination requests and drafting responses to regulatory findings

  • Drive implementation of policy and regulatory requirements in the areas of UDAAP, and other relevant federal, state and local regulations

  • Lead, coach and develop a team of Compliance Colleagues

Minimum Qualifications

  • Strong regulatory knowledge of the applicable consumer financial regulations including UDAAP, Reg E, Reg O, Reg Z

  • Proven experience supporting the effective execution of American Express’ Compliance Risk Management framework, including working knowledge of AEMP39

  • Experience assessing, supporting, and managing launch of complex new products across US and International Markets

  • Ability to lead compliance discussions as part of New Product Development

  • Familiarity with 3 rd party platforms that provide infrastructure to manage and service banking products

  • Knowledge of critical data repository warehouses and technical capabilities that support new products and innovation across the enterprise

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in the development and selection of compliant solutions

  • Strong project management skills, ability to lead multiple projects and support multiple priorities simultaneously

  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions independently, work well under pressure, meet deadlines and adapt easily to frequent change

  • Strong collaborative skills and experience leading and working in a matrixed and agile environment and on cross-functional teams

  • Strong leadership, analytical, organizational and managerial skills; ability to lead and inspire others through continuous coaching, feedback, recognition and encouragement

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to persuade and influence

  • Proactive, results-oriented, and self-driven

  • Creative and highly collaborative ability to solve business challenges

  • Prior banking, compliance, legal or risk experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred advanced degree preferred or equivalent work experience

Qualifications

Salary Range: $130,000.00 to $205,000.00 annually bonus equity (if applicable) benefits
