The Centers at St. Camillus Dining Services Worker in Syracuse, New York

Purpose of Job

The primary purpose of this position is plate meals for serving on the units and maintain a safe sanitary kitchen area. This position works as part of a team to provide nutritionally adequate meals to the Residents and Patients of St. Camillus

Education and Experience

There is a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent. Candidate must be able to read English and have basic math skills. This position requires the ability to work with people. Must have flexible availability.

Department-Specific Job Duties

All employees are expected to perform any work that is needed as determined by a supervisor or manager. This position primarily involves the following duties and responsibilities:

  1. Possess knowledge of all Dining Services operations policies and procedures.
  2. Follows all HACCP guidelines (which include sanitation and food safety).
  3. Calibrates and uses a food thermometer correctly when needed.
  4. Takes the temperature of foods and to record the temperature on the proper HACCP form.
  5. Answers the phone and to provide resident requests in a timely manner.
  6. Knowledge of therapeutic diets including restrictions and consistency alterations.
  7. Read the resident meal tickets when needed.
  8. Plates food including proper portion size and appealing presentation.
  9. Follows menus to ensure that food delivered is on the resident/patients meal plan.
  10. Follows and prepares items on beverage and cold food production sheets.
  11. Works in the dish room. Must be able to scrape dishes, rack and load dirty dishes and unload clean dishes. Disassemble dish machine and clean it. Reassemble dish machine and set it up for washing dishes.
  12. Puts clean dishes where they belong.
  13. Wash pots and pans using the 3-sink method as needed.
  14. Clean equipment, storage areas and general cleaning in the kitchen. Uses chemicals for cleaning properly. Knowledge of Material Data Safety Sheets.
  15. Deliver food carts and special request to the units as needed.
  16. Take out garbage and recyclables.
  17. Must be neat, clean and organized at all times.
  18. Responsible for employee injury prevention, follows safety rules, and addresses safety issues with supervisor.
  19. All other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Working Conditions

Works in office area as well as throughout all areas of the facility. Sit, stand, bend, lift, and move frequently during working hours. Subject to frequent interruptions and may need to reprioritize activities. Involved with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc. Subject to emotionally upset residents, family member, etc. Subject to falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc. May perform tasks that involve exposure to resident blood/body fluids, including exposure to HIV and Hepatitis B viruses. May be required to work on weekends and holidays. May be required to work shifts other than the one for which hired.

Physical and Sensory Requirements (With or without the Aid of Mechanical Devices)

Standards: Must be able to alternately sit, stand, walk intermittently throughout the work day. Must be able to speak, read, and write in the English language in an understandable manner. Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position. Must possess physical capabilities, with or without reasonable accommodation, that will enable the employee to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met, including ensuring the safety of residents. Must be able to work with ill, disabled, elderly, and, at times, emotionally upset people within the facility. Must be able to lift, push, pull, and move equipment, supplies, up to 45 pounds on an occasional basis. Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents.
