SUNY Upstate Medical University Equipment Services Trainer in Syracuse, New York

Job Summary:

The Equipment Services Trainer is responsible for effectively training new team members, provides any necessary re-training for current team members, cross trains team members between campuses and creates monthly refresher trainings for all team members. Ensures Departmental training packet is complete and will sign off when the team member is fully trained. Will complete assessments on new and current team members in the decontamination room and other areas, such as setting up trapezes, testing the balloon pumps, ordering specialty items to ensure compliance of departmental standards. Will work with the leadership team to create training videos to be posted for both Equipment team members and clinical team members to view as needed. Will identify units that need additional training/retraining on how to use/setup equipment based on equipment being returned broken, thrown away, and/or service calls placed and will collaborate with the clinical trainers to create education. Will work with the leadership team to update the following as needed: training packet/other training materials and equipment decontam standard operating procedures. Will host study groups with sterile techs in the Equipment department working towards their license and identify areas they are having difficulty in. Will be responsible for training new team members on the following and will perform the following when not training: equipment decontamination, setup and operational verification for equipment to be issued; soiled equipment collection, delivery of equipment to patient areas accurately and promptly; performs minor repairs to equipment and refers major repairs to Clinical Engineering; assists team members in prioritizing work based on incoming requests; checks staff assignments for completion at various times during shift and completes written and verbal shift reports; answers the telephones and greets visitors/customers; checks calls and call data base for completeness; reports equipment unavailability to units and to department staff via OnDemand order updates; performs data entry and looks up information via computer system. Participates in team spirit and department morale concerns; problem-solves; maintains a safe work environment; participates in quality improvement; communicates effectively; maintains positive public relations; takes an active role in personal/professional development; and makes decisions by ethical principles.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associates Degree with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. Excellent communication skills, ability to work well in teams, and exhibits patient focus.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working in a healthcare environment and/or training experience preferred. Knowledge of personal protection equipment, proper cleaning techniques, and basic computer skills (information lookup, data entry) are also preferred.

Work Days:

M-F 8:00am-4:30pm
