SUNY Upstate Medical University Forms Medical Secretary / Float in Syracuse, New York

Job Summary:

Utilizes EPIC EMR for navigating and printing documents to accompany forms for submission to appropriate company/individual. Uses Epic EMR to scan completed forms into patients charts.

Proficient in anticipating patient, secretary and physician needs regarding the completion of various forms.

Maintains a rapid work pace that ensures a steady workflow for timely completion of all forms for entire department.

Uses professional and effective telephone skills when dealing with patients, co-workers and various insurance companies. Returns telephone calls within 24-48 hours and in accordance with standard office policies.

Possesses strong interpersonal skills.

Full knowledge and understanding of forms policies and procedures; recognizes and properly organizes distributes forms accordingly.

Accepts and tracks payments for forms.

Possesses working knowledge of Epic EMR, Synapse, Microsoft Excel and other systems/portals.

Provides regular break coverage for the business office receptionist.

Willingly performs other assignments and duties as requested by his/her supervisor(s) and managerial team.

Seeks out additional work from secretarial and receptionist staff when forms have been completed including but not limited to the following:

  • Obtaining lab and imaging results as needed for chart preparation.

  • Accurately prepares temporary charts for patient days 2-3 days in advance with accuracy (includes the last office note, test results and any appropriate imaging reports).

  • Correctly scans all documents into Epic EMR according to policy as assigned by supervisor.

  • Primary coverage for Business Office Receptionist lunch and break periods and absences.

  • Capable of assisting with the opening, sorting and distributing of the mail.

  • Ability to perform various secretarial duties: faxing, typing labels, opening, sorting, stamping and distributing mail and faxes, alphabetizing secretarial paper filing, stamping envelopes, addressing envelopes.

    Minimum Qualifications:

High school or equivalent and two years of directly related medical secretary/office experience. Will consider equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

EMR and Orthopedic office experience preferred.

Work Days:

Monday - Friday 8:30 am - 5:00 pm
