SUNY Upstate Medical University Research and Instruction Librarian -Liaison to the College of Graduate Studies - Research in Syracuse, New York

Job Summary:

Upstate Health Sciences Library seeks a collaborative research & instruction librarian to join its team. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Research & Instruction, the successful candidate will provide traditional reference services including: reference shift coverage, information literacy instruction, database/literature searching, as well as services in support of scholarly communications, such as institutional repository best practices, copyright and fair use, open access, and use of persistent identifiers.

  • Building relationships with faculty, students, and researchers to facilitate the use of library resources and services.

  • Teaching and providing library instruction on a variety of topics for a variety of learners

  • Assessing and growing new library services

On the job you will:

  • Provide reference services, including information literacy instruction for faculty, students, and staff across departments and colleges

  • Conduct comprehensive literature searches to support research, scholarly activities, and evidence synthesis projects

  • Serve as the librarian liaison to the College of Graduate Studies and Research Administration

  • Provide individual and group consultations to students, faculty, and staff on topics including persistent identifiers (ex. ORCID), fair use, predatory publishers, and Creative Commons licensing

  • Partner with library colleagues to support the institutional repository

  • Serve on library, faculty, and university-wide committees

    Minimum Qualifications:

  • ALA-accredited Master's degree in library information science or commensurate degree with relevant experience

  • Experience providing reference services

  • Experience providing instruction or delivering presentations

  • Knowledge of issues, trends, and technologies related to academic research, scholarly communication practices, and research data management

  • Evidence of skills needed to foster new connections and build relationships

  • Experience engaging in inclusive practices within work responsibilities to promote a workplace that is welcoming to a diverse workforce and community

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience providing instruction in the use of data curation tools and research profile systems

  • Experience working in an academic or research library

  • Experience using major biomedical databases used in academic health sciences libraries including PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science

  • Experience with data management workflows and research impact

  • Experience with large-scale literature reviews, scoping reviews, and systematic reviews

  • Knowledge of the scientific research process

Work Days:

Monday - Friday; 9am - 5pm some holidays required
