Who are we looking for?
Our Northeast Environment business is looking for a senior level Wetland Scientist / Ecologist / Biologist to join their Natural Resources team. You will play a lead role in overseeing and conducting wetland and watercourse assessments, state and federal protected species surveys, environmental review, and local, state, and federal permits. You will also design and implement ecological sampling and monitoring plans, conduct data analysis and lead preparation of technical reports. Internal and external client communication and expertise in new business development are key requirements for this position.

Working with an energetic and hard-working team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:
- Conducting field assessments including wetland delineations, stream surveys, fish, reptile and amphibian surveys, and protected species habitat assessments
- Preparing work plans for collection of chemical and biological data (surface water, sediment, macroinvertebrates, soil, groundwater, etc.) and review analytical results for purposes of site assessment and/or to support risk assessment projects
- Preparing technical reports and permit applications in accordance with federal and state regulatory requirements for wetlands and waterways
- Supporting existing GHD clients with the implementation of efficient and innovative solutions to address their project needs
- Coordinating technical projects: maintaining client satisfaction and expectations while ensuring projects are delivered safely and within scope, schedule, and budget
- Establishing and developing strategic long-term relationships with current clients, new clients, and prospective teaming partners
- People management, including supervision of field staff, subcontractors, and junior-level staff, as needed, to deliver projects
- Project management, tracking and delivery
- Master's degree in Natural Resources, Water Resources, Biology, Ecology, or related field, or bachelor's degree with commensurate experience
- Certification as a Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) or Wetland Professional in Training (WPIT) pursuing PWS certification through the Society of Wetland Scientists preferred
- At least 10 years of experience working within the private sector as a consultant or environmental manager
- Demonstrated technical skills in identification and characterization of wetland vegetation, soils, and hydrology in the Northcentral and Northeast, Eastern Mountains and Piedmont, and Atlantic and Gulf Coastal Plain Regions is required.
- Familiarity with local, state, and federal environmental regulations, permit requirements and land use regulations (e.g., CWA 404/401, N.J.A.C. 7:7A, N.J.A.C. 7:13, NY Freshwater Wetlands Act, NEPA, EIS, etc.)
- Project management experience with the ability to independently develop and prepare work plans, budgets, and work scopes in response to RFPs or based on client needs
- Experience working with GPS, data loggers and other field mapping/survey devices and applications
- Able and willing to travel when needed and staff projects that may require multi-day field work and overnight travel
- Able to work in challenging seasonal climates, variable terrain, and carry necessary field equipment and supplies
- Able to work remotely, as needed, and collaborate electronically with project teams
