The YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties is seeking a *Before and After School Lead Teacher *to join our team!

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading non-profit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.  

As the Before and After Lead Teacher, you will support the YMCA Child Care Program year-round to serve our community with a variety of activity options to explore and develop interests and talents of the youth with a focus on safety, health, social growth, and academic enhancement for children to have fun and thrive in our care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct parent conferences, and maintain positive relationships and effective communication with parents.
  • Work closely with the program director and branch leadership team to advocate for team needs and collaborate on partnership opportunities when appropriate.
  • Provide feedback and deliver on the onboarding of new site staff; implement training guidelines, including shadowing and coaching new staff during the program.
  • Ensure the program maintains conformance with all YMCA policies and procedures and the Washington Administrative Code.
  • Promote a positive environment that fosters fun, safety, and our YMCA values which includes implementation of proximity praise, specific action compliments, and our 8 Points of Leadership.
  • Attend and participates in family nights and program activities.

Are you a good fit?

  • You enjoy working with school-aged children and have previous experience working with children in a childcare setting.
  • You are at least 21 years old.
  • You have two years of full-time management experience (preferred).
  • You have 12 or more college quarter credits in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, and Elementary Education or equivalent educational background in courses relating to early learning or child development.
  • You are committed to completing STARS training within 60 days of hire and will complete all WA State educational requirements within 4 years from hire (the YMCA will support you in achieving this state requirement).
  • You are certified in Infant-Child CPR and Basic First Aid, and have a valid Food Handlers Permit or are willing to obtain certification within 30 days of hire (the YMCA will assist in this process).
  • You are willing to obtain a Food Handlers permit (cost reimbursable), complete a pre-employment TB skin test with negative results (YMCA will assist in this process. and proof of MMR vaccination (before the first day of employment).
  • Must be able to successfully complete required DCYF background and fingerprint checks before the first day of hire.
  • You are able to complete online Child Abuse Prevention training on your first day, and other online and in-person training as required.
  • You have reliable transportation and the ability to assist at other childcare sites as needed. Must be able to pass Background and Reference checks (in accordance with the WA State Fair Chance Act).

Wage: $20.00 to $22.00 per hour, depending on qualifications

*Hours:  *Full-Time, 40 hours per week, Monday -- Friday
