Number 003-3269 Posting Date 2023-02-15T16:55:25Z Job Description Job Title Red Dog Alaska Laborer Location: Tacoma, WA & Red Dog Alaska Functional Group: Laborer Job Status: Full Time JOB PURPOSE/SUMMARY: December 1 to Apr 15: In Tacoma Washington assisting in Maintenance & Repair and clean up on lighterage barges. Standard workweek is 4 days a week, 10 hours a day and reports to the Barge Supervisor. June 25 to Nov 1: Responsible for observing, learning, and fulfilling the tasks and duties of a laborer. Remove buildup of concentrate from the conveyor systems on the lighterage barges in Red Dog Alaska. The laborer reports directly to the Loading Supervisor and will be given on the job training to fulfill the functions of the position. Laborer is expected to work two (2), four (4) hours shifts per day, dependent on weather. Laborer is on call 24/7 and reports to the Loading Supervisor. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Will meet the barge with the Loading Supervisor upon arrival at the load cells and assist in making the barge fast with mooring lines. Actively clean up concentrate on conveyor systems as directed by Loading Supervisor. In addition to cleaning of concentrate spillage, the laborer will clean inside workspaces as assigned. Learn how to assist the Loading Supervisor in surveying the barge for trim and list. Learn how to operate a radio and maintain radio contact with the Loading Supervisor to insure the safety of both people. Assist in casting off lines when loading is complete, and the barge is to depart for discharge operations. Perform maintenance and repair tasks during lay periods as assigned. Participation in the Lead Compliance Program with respect to monthly blood testing, fitting and proper utilization of respiratory protection KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Insure that personal safety equipment issued is used at all times and is properly maintained. Adherence to Standard Operating Procedures as given in the Barge Superintendent's Manual. Adherence to the Foss Drug and Alcohol Policy, as well as all policies and work rules as given in the Foss Employee handbook. Regular and predictable attendance is a requirement. Environment and Working Conditions Subject to weather conditions, including exposure to high noise levels and exposure to heat and cold. Work is performed in the field, subject to weather conditions. Candidate must be able to work in confined spaces wearing safety equipment such as, hard hat, gloves, boots, rain gear, and respirators for protection from harmful dust and fumes. Regular and predictable attendance is a requirement. Physical/Mental Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit/stand; use hands or fingers; handle or feel; talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Ability to move between buildings, ascend/descend stairs and go outdoors in all kinds of weather. One needs the ability to climb ladders and over bulwarks. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus Must have reasonable sensory skills. Including color vision, depth perception, hand/eye coordination and hearing. Must be proficient in the English language. Must be flexible and receptive to change. Must be able to fly in a fixed-wing aircraft. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Must pass a physical-fit exam. Must possess or be willing to procure a valid TWIC card.
