Corewell Health Taylor Hospital is a 148-bed, Magnet®-designated hospital that is a recognized health care leader in the metro Detroit area. Proudly serving Taylor and surrounding communities since 1977, it offers specialty services that include 24-hour emergency care, wound care and hyperbaric oxygen therapy, a surgical pavilion, a pain management clinic, orthopedic surgery, an inpatient rehabilitation facility and full-service radiology, including advanced CT with cardiac scoring, fixed MRI including pacemaker, cinema vision and ultrasound (MSK and elastography).

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Reporting directly to the Nutrition Services Supervisor, responsible for production of simple to complex food products from raw ingredients according to standardized recipes. Use of commercial cooking equipment. Knowledge and application of safe food handling practices. Ensure high quality food products by monitoring ingredients and finished product to meet established quality standards. Attention to special requirements for modified and restricted diets. Maintain safety and sanitation standards of the work area. Communicate effectively. Provide excellent patient and family centered care and service.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTONS:

  • Produces simple to complex food products from raw ingredients according to standardized recipes using commercial cooking equipment.

  • Ensures compliance to modified and restricted diets for patients.

  • Ensures high quality food products by monitoring ingredients and finished product to meet established quality standards and portion control prior to service for patients or retail customers.

  • Identifies and communicates opportunities for waste reduction, service improvements, and revenue enhancement.

  • Maintains, cleans, and sanitizes equipment and work area according to established standards for safety and sanitation. Collects and disposes of trash in work area.

  • Applies principles of safe food handling during storage, assembly, production, and service. Records food and equipment temperatures as required. Properly labels and dates products. Monitors expiration dates and disposes of outdated product.

  • Communicates effectively within department and with all hospital departments, patients, and staff.

  • Actively participates in safety initiatives and risk mitigating measures where appropriate and completes all position and unit safety related competencies and requirements on a timely basis.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS:

Education / Training:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, preferred.

  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and communicate effectively in English, required.

Work Experience:

  • One year of relevant food service production, required.

  • Experience with therapeutic diets, preferred.

Other Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age to work with power equipment, required by law, required.

  • Ability to function in a physically demanding fast paced environment with exposure to temperature extremes, required.

  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn proper lifting techniques and safety precautions, required.

  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn proper use and storage of potentially hazardous cleaning products, required.

  • Strong customer service focus, required.

  • Must be able to prioritize and multi-task and stay focused in a busy environment, required.

Licenses and Certifications:
