Baylor Scott & White Health Human Anatomy Lab Manager in Temple, Texas

JOB SUMMARY

The Human Anatomy Lab Manager is responsible for maintaining and overseeing daily operations of the Anatomy Lab at the Temple Academic facilities and is responsible to and works in collaboration with BSWH staff, BCM faculty, and partnering organizations. Manage, transport within the facility, and maintain fresh and embalmed human samples including cadavers, body parts, and pre-dissected teaching materials on BCM Temple campus. Perform embalming to human samples when needed and maintain morgue and teaching labs; including preparing remains for in-house labs and maintaining sufficient supplies and equipment. Support the Willed Body Program and help to maintain data and records. Functions as a liaison to the Willed Body Program. Manages and supports staff with educational activities in the realm of facilities, equipment, space, cadaver preparation, cadaver care, and ensures all educational activities occur with appropriate process and scope. Managing shipment of human remains from procurement facility to campus and coordinating with vendors.

This position would require de novo creation of processes and procedures relating to the Anatomy lab. Human remains are highly regulated, and these procedures, forms and policies will have to align with Texas Funeral Commission and this position will be responsible for maintaining our accreditation with the state.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE

Manages assigned staff, to include hiring, terminating, promoting, demoting, and administer performance evaluations.

Assists with budgeting, provides information about supplies, personnel, and equipment.

Maintains, supports, prepares, and oversees upkeep of Anatomy lab space including equipment, chemicals, cadaver tanks, cadaver care and preparation.

Supports lab operations and management for BSW, educational affiliates, and Baylor College of Medicine Temple regional medical campus.

Maintains and reports on inventory of chemicals, supplies, consumables, and other items.

Prepares and cleans cadaver tanks, and chillers for lab and teaching purposes.

Assist Baylor College of Medicine Willed Body Program with relevant paperwork.

Communicate with vendors for special event preparation.

Set up and break down specific lab configurations for educational use.

Take Photographs of anatomical specimens for student project requirements.

KEY SUCCESS FACTORS

Prior experience with cadavers

Minimum educational requirement is associates degree in Mortuary Science or Funeral Science

Prior experience as lab manager is preferred

  • EDUCATION - Associate's

  • EXPERIENCE - 2 Years of Experience

  • CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION -

&nbspFuneral Director (FD): Licensed in the State of Texas within 3 years of hire.
