McGovern Medical SchoolatUTHealth Houston, with its newly appointed Chair of the Department of Neurosurgery, Jacques J. Morcos, MD, FRCS, FAANS, is seeking applications for a fellowship-trained Spine Neurosurgeon to be the Director of the Spine Division in theDepartment of Neurosurgery and join a large and vibrant Department at the rank of Associate or Full Professor, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Our multidisciplinary department is unique in that it comprises over 45 clinical faculty (including neurosurgeons, neurologists, pain specialists, critical care specialists, radiation oncologists and neurooncologists), 20 research faculty, and a large cadre of mid-level APP support. This is a full-time, tenure-track position and will be based at Memorial Hermannin theTexas Medical Center (TMC), one of the largest and busiest conglomerations of healthcare facilities in the world. Our department performs over 7000 procedures yearly across its 3 campuses (TMC, Southwest, and Memorial City), leading the city in neurosurgical volume.The UTHealth Houston Neurosurgery Spine Divisionis the only site in Texas with a “Walmart Center of Excellence” Program. We practice in state-of-the-art facilities that have witnessed recent enhancements including a robotic navigation system (Globus) and an EOS edge imaging system.Thesuccessful candidate will be expected to lead and enhance the division of spine neurosurgery and develop comprehensive clinical and research spine programs within the department as well as in collaboration with the spine orthopedic division. The successful candidate is expected to develop a thriving clinical practice, enhance the spine research portfolio, and augment the regional, national, and international visibility of the Spine division and its members. All types of expertise within the spine disciplines will be considered (minimallyinvasive, open, degenerative, tumors, deformity, endoscopy, etc.). The candidate will be expected to be closely engaged in resident and fellow instruction both in the operating room and at the bedside and to have a strong emphasis on teaching, research, and academic excellence. Proven track records in obtaining extramural funding, innovation, and high-impact publications, as well as national and international reputation, will enhance candidacy for this position. The appointee will receive a research support package based on seniority and prior accomplishments.
Qualifications:
Board-certified neurosurgeon, fellowship-training in spine neurosurgery and proven track record of clinical and research excellence.
