Position Description:

The Counselor Education and Supervision faculty in the Department of Educational Psychology, Leadership, and Counseling in the College of Education at Texas Tech University invites applications from innovative and collaborative colleagues to join our faculty at the rank of Assistant Professor in Counselor Education and Supervision. This full-time, tenure-track position, with a nine-month academic-year appointment beginning on September 1, 2025, requires on-campus presence and active engagement. Not a distance position.

Major/Essential Functions:

In line with TTU’s strategic priorities to engage and empower a diverse student body, enable innovative research and creative activities, and transform lives and communities through outreach and engaged scholarship, applicants should have experience working with diverse student populations at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels within individual or across the areas of teaching, research/creative activity, and service. Other essential functions for this position include the following:

  • Teach graduate courses in person and online.

  • Establish and maintain a rigorous research agenda.

  • Work with multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary teams to seek extramural funding to support research and practice.

  • Advise and mentor masters and doctoral students.

  • Supervise graduate student research (including serving on thesis and dissertation committees).

  • Actively participate in service for the program, department, college, and university committees.

  • Help the department build a strong program to be commensurate with the University’s mission as a Hispanic-serving institution.

  • Collaborate and cooperate with colleagues to fulfill the needs of the department’s and college’s strategic goals.

  • Develop and foster partnerships with school districts, community partners, other colleges, and universities for engaged scholarship.

  • Promote a collaborative, socially just environment within the department, college, university, and community.

Preferred Qualifications:

In addition to the required qualifications, individuals with the following preferred qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply:

  • Eligible for state credential to provide clinical supervision.

  • Evidence of and/or strong potential to seek and secure external federal funding.

  • Evidence of a focused research agenda demonstrated by a record of scholastic activity which could include peer-reviewed articles in a counseling journal or a counseling related journal and peer-reviewed presentation at a counseling conference.

  • Experience in teaching university level coursework as teacher of record.

  • Evidence of experience conducting virtual/online/distance counseling.

  • Evidence of current and developing technological innovations related to counseling and counselor education.

  • Specialized training and credentials to teach the following courses: Psychopharmacology, addictions counseling, assessment, or dysfunctional behavior.

  • Credentials and training in the following counseling interventions: school counseling, play therapy, animal assisted therapy, marriage and family, addictions, sandtray, expressive/creative arts therapies, crisis counseling, distance counseling, licensed chemical dependency counselor, trauma informed practices, restorative justice, or EMDR.

Faculty Qualifications:

  • Earned doctoral degree in Counselor Education and Supervision from a CACREP accredited doctoral program by August 2025.

  • Appropriate qualifications to be credentialed as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPC-Associate) in Texas within 1 year of beginning employment. Current credentials as a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC) will be considered.

  • Knowledge of CACREP standards for PhD and MEd programs.

  • Evidence of potential for conducting meaningful research in the field of Counselor Education and Supervision.

  • Evidence of strong potential for sustainable line of scholarship and research.

  • Strong potential and/or plan to seek external research funding.

  • Specific active experience with outreach or service, in the counseling profession, at the local, state, regional, or national levels.
