What you will do

The Forecasting team at Amgen serves as a key partner to Commercial leadership, providing strategic guidance and data-backed insights. This role is instrumental in driving commercial success and crafting future strategies for Amgen portfolio assets. The Director of Forecasting will oversee a team of 3-5 hard-working individuals (full time Amgen FTE + Contingent Worker) and is responsible for leading the forecasting efforts for inline/pipeline assets and diseases within the Amgen’s portfolio.

In this vital role you will need to skillfully influence and challenge a diverse set of stakeholders from Commercial, R&D, Medical, Finance, Manufacturing, Access, and Pricing/Contracting, while proficiently understanding the nuances of each disease area and markets they support.

They will serve as a mentor, developing talent and guiding the team while providing technical guidance in forecasting methodologies. Additionally, the Director will articulate the interplay between Forecasting and related functions within Commercial Data & Analytics (Market Research, Commercial Insights, Competitive Intelligence, and, Analytics) in contributing to the forecast.,

Flexible Commuter role to Thousand Oaks office. You will work on-site 2-3 days a week.

This position reports to the AVP of Forecasting & Competitive Intelligence and will be responsible for the following:

  • Primary point of contact for senior Therapeutic Area leaders to engage in the forecasting deliverables for the organization

  • Facilitate consensus-building among senior partners to establish clear, visible, and rigorous sales expectations for the inline/pipeline assets by gaining their alignment and endorsement for forecast assumptions

  • Help leadership identify actionable strategies to improve Commercial potential by identifying and prioritizing relevant risks & opportunities

  • Provide recommendations on whether to proceed with product development or discontinue certain projects based on market conditions, financial projections, and strategic goals

  • Analyze competitors and market dynamics to inform forecasting models and strategic decisions

  • Develop an objective point of view of brand strategy by integrating insights across multiple functions and capability areas

  • Leverage communication and interpersonal skills to influence leadership on recommended course of action

  • Quantify uncertainty through the use of scenario planning and advanced simulation models (e.g. Monte Carlo analysis, statistical trending)

  • Apply an in-depth understanding of diverse pharmaceutical data sources (eg. LAAD, National Audit Rx, Xponent, Epidemiology data sources etc) and their nuances to develop and implement enhanced forecasting approaches and methodologies

  • Build and deliver effective presentations that are transparent and articulate all key variables in the forecast, ensuring clarity and comprehensive understanding for partners involved in decision-making processes

  • Collaborate with the broader CD&A (Commercial Data & Analytics) organization to integrate comprehensive insights and analytics knowledge into the development and refinement of forecasts. This collaboration strives to improve the depth and accuracy of forecasts by leveraging a broad spectrum of insights across the organization

  • Drive productivity and efficiency, streamlining forecasting processes where possible

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree and 4 years of experience in forecasting in biopharma

OR

Master’s degree and 8 years of experience in forecasting in biopharma

OR

Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of experience in forecasting in biopharma

In addition to meeting at least one of the above requirements, you must have a minimum of 4 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs, or directing the allocation of resources. Your managerial experience may run concurrently with the required technical experience referenced above.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Leadership experience in building and developing high-performing teams

  • Ability to quickly establish credibility with and influence SVP level staff

  • Alignment of teams to best practices and championing new innovative methodologies and tools

  • Business acumen that lends itself to understanding the context and dynamics of pharmaceutical markets for relevant disease areas

  • Partnership with business leaders to deliver high-quality predictions guiding strategic decision-making

  • Oral, written, and presentation skills to explain complex concepts and controversial findings clearly to a variety of audiences, including senior management
