Air Force Materiel Command RECREATION ASSISTANT in Tinker AFB, Oklahoma

The primary purpose of this position, RECREATION ASSISTANT, NK-0189-02, is to provide support and assistance to the Fitness Center Director by administering fitness, sports, and special events/programs. Responsibilities - Administer fitness, sports programs, and special events. - Provide quality service to patrons in arranging for and issuing needed sports and fitness equipment and supplies. - Prepare facilities for special events, programs, and sports events. - Oversee general housekeeping during shift of duty within facility and immediate outside area. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Technical and Medical Support Positions, to include the Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR) for the GS-0189, Recreation Aid and Assistant Series. ONLY EXPERIENCE OBTAINED BY THE CLOSING DATE OF THIS ANNOUNCEMENT WILL BE CONSIDERED. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at a level close to the work of this position that has given them the particular knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform. Typically, we would find this experience in work within this field that is closely related. To be creditable, the specialized experience must have been equivalent to the next lower grade level NK-1, GS-04 or equivalent, pay band or equivalent. Examples of specialize experience include (1) group leader, counselor, or similar work in public and private recreation programs for adults or children such as summer camps, local playgrounds, YWCA and YMCA clubs, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, urban community centers, or resort recreational activities; (2) teacher's aide in elementary school recreation or physical education program, with emphasis on development of general recreational skills and abilities; (3) aide or assistant assignments in recreation while on active military service; (4) aide or assistant in the organization and administration of recreation activities, such as preparing activities calendars, maintaining attendance records, and providing information concerning schedules and activities.Note: In-service applicants can qualify with at least 1 year of specialized experience at either the next lower level (GS-04) or the second lower level (GS-03). However, for outside applicants (i.e., those without current or prior Federal competitive or excepted service), 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower level is required. OR EDUCATION: Successfully completed a 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours in courses related to recreation or physical education. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of sports and fitness special programs, events, and intramural and varsity sports. 2. Knowledge of customer service practices and principles to include interactions with patrons telephone courtesy, reservations, and associated practices and principles as obtained through previous experience or in-house training sessions. 3. Ability to administer basic concepts of special programs, events, and sports. 4. Knowledge of proper use and operation of electronic and mechanical fitness equipment and supplies associated with fitness and sports. 5. Skill and ability to demonstrate use of cardiovascular equipment, free weights, and nautilus equipment to patrons. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Due to heavy lifting, extended periods of standing, stooping, and kneeling. A PRE-EMPLOYMENT PHYSICAL IS REQUIRED. WORKING ENVIRONMENT: The program involves risks or discomforts which requires normal safety precautions typical of various sporting events. Work areas are adequately lighted; heated and ventilated.
