Objective of Position

The Associate Director will be responsible to help fulfill strategic and operations planning and coordination within Clinical Pharmacology & Pharmacometrics (CPP) and collaborating closely with partner functions within Global Development and J&J (e.g. Finance, Capacity Management and Procurement). The position provides lead support to business and scientific functions to enable operational excellence in areas of resource management, financial management, knowledge management, communications, compliance, supplier management and business performance management.

Main Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Financial & Resource Management : Supports decision making and strategy alignment to R&D priorities through Business Review meetings. Assists with the development of CPP annual budget, update latest outlook, and track spending against forecast. Helps coordinate with Finance and Capacity Management to identify, analyze trends, and ensure accuracy of financial and resource data across multiple systems.

  • Business Performance and Productivity : Leads the development and sustainability of operational metrics, reports, and dashboards aligned with functional needs to monitor the operational performance of CPP. Demonstrates adaptability to change and serves as a role model to drive departmental alignment with strategic changes.

  • Quality and Compliance : Ensures time reporting, training compliance and inspection readiness metrics goals of CPP staff are maintained via monitoring, communications and reporting out on CAPAs and inspection readiness gaps.

  • Supplier Management : Assesses and coordinates external CPP support providers. Supports/leads cross-area coordination of external suppliers and execution of sourcing strategies for CPP. Provides guidance and oversight to suppliers and contractors on J&J and CPP processes and systems.

  • Process Improvement & Program Management : Coordinates the identification, prioritization, tracking, and reporting out of end-to-end internal or cross-functional improvement initiatives within CPP and partnering with other functions. Takes responsibility for the quality and timeliness of project/initiative deliverables, as assessed by stakeholders such as the CPP Leadership team and cross-functional leaders and peers.

  • Follow organization and company standard operating procedures in timely fashion, such as training and project time accounting. Take ownership for the quality and timeliness of project deliverables, as assessed by collaborators such as the CPP Leadership team and cross-functional leaders and peers.

  • Seen as a recognized leader in an area of technical expertise. Have a track record for suggesting, evaluating, and implementing innovative tools and solutions in process automation.

  • Represent CPP on cross-functional and inter-departmental teams or working groups.

  • Serve as a role model, and mentor to colleagues. Share knowledge within and across functions. Mentor junior colleagues in techniques, processes, and responsibilities.

  • Identify, lead, and implement process improvements. Develop training and standards. Demonstrate adaptability to change and to be role model to drive departmental alignment with strategic changes.

  • Demonstrate excellent written, spoken, and interpersonal communication skills. Demonstrate ability to collaborate and consult with partners across domains and teams. Translate operations concepts effectively. Act as a facilitator and enabler on complex teams.

  • Demonstrate full proficiency in operational platforms, data workflows and reporting tools.

  • Manage multiple projects.

  • Ensure active and ongoing communications both internal to CPP and external, through email, and electronic mediums, as well as occasionally in-person forums such as town halls.

  • Contribute to and coordinate knowledge management content and systems including SharePoint.

  • Ensure the development and sustainability of operational metrics, reports, and dashboards aligned with functional needs to monitor the operational performance of CPP

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications / Experience

  • B.S., M.S., PharmD or equivalent with 7 years of experience in a scientific field or in general management, an advanced degree is preferred.

  • Sound financial acumen, strong program/project management skills are required.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, to individuals and groups at various levels in the organization is required.

  • Hands-on experience managing communication and collaboration platforms.

  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills. Proficiency of office suites, database, data analysis tools e.g. Tableau or Spotfire, process mapping, and project management software are required.

  • The ability to multi-task, work independently, and results oriented in a fast paced environment.

  • Proficiency of office suite, database, process mapping, and project management software.

  • Practical knowledge of drug development process and proven performance in operations management, process improvement, and business analysis are required.

  • Experience working with off shore teams across global time zones is required.

  • Experience coordinating with or managing suppliers and hands-on experience in managing communication and collaboration platforms are preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively in interdisciplinary contexts and across teams. Effective partnership with stakeholders at all levels to drive results in a global matrix environment is required.

  • Ability to exercise good judgment, maintain confidentially and discretion when coming across sensitive information is required. Must be flexible in working hours occasionally to effectively support global teams.
