ProMedica Health System EMT Paramedic – Freestanding Emergency Department / Urgent Care – Part Time – Days in Toledo, Ohio

9:00am - 9:00pm

Join the ProMedica Emergency and Urgent Care team! This facility is a 24/7 free-standing Emergency Department/Urgent Care that provides care for both urgent and emergency needs under one roof. By having Emergency Center and Urgent Care under one roof, patients no longer have to decide what level of care they need and will only be billed for the level of care they need.

Under supervision of physician/NP, PA, charge nurse/registered nurse, and according to established policies and procedures, the Paramedic performs a variety of technical skills and patient care activities for acute and sub-acute patients as assigned and directed. The Paramedic directly reports to the Operations Manager which handles non-clinical job performance items. The Paramedic provides patient care under the authority of the Medical Director and reports to the Clinical Manager for clinical care issues.

Accountabilities:

Practices within the scope of practice for appropriate state certification under medical supervision. Demonstrates appropriate assessment skills in following established patient care protocols, and collaborates with other health team members. Provide a safe, therapeutic and efficient patient care environment through collaboration with other disciplines. Assists in assessment and reassessment of patient care needs under the direction of nursing. Reports changes in assessment to interdisciplinary nursing care team. Acts as a liaison with patient and families. Orients new patients to their room. Assists with patients comfort care needs. Stocks and maintains unit supply par levels. Maintain patient room cleanliness. Demonstrates sensitivity to the needs of the patient and family, expresses interest in their comfort, privacy and needs. Provides for the patient needs for assistance in the activities of daily living as necessary. Performs duties in collaboration with team members within the scope of education, training and experience, as needed. Assists in moving and transporting patients as required. Answer patient call lights. Clerical duties as assigned. Performs assigned aspects of therapeutic patient care under the supervision, delegation and direction of the multidisciplinary care team. Assists with airway support and intubation. Communicates and processes necessary paperwork/information for patient admissions, transfers and discharges. Participates in unit based Shared Governance activities and assists with the implementation of changes as recommended by councils. Makes transfer arrangements with appropriate EMS transport agency for ED patients needing to be transferred. Directs responding ambulance crews to the appropriate area of the ED for patient transfer. Perform phlebotomy duties, basic laboratory procedures, wound cultures, Point of Care testing, and other care interventions within scope of practice and direction of the prescribing practitioner. Perform EKG tests. Perform Breathing treatments. Administers medications according to facility policy. Documents care given and/or procedures performed as well as patient response to care in a timely fashion. Other duties as assigned.

Must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Must be a certified EMT Paramedic (EMT-P) in the State of Ohio. Current BLS, PALS and ACLS, NIHSS Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and follow HIPAA regulations. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Basic math skills including the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to work independently and make decisions away from the controlled hospital environment. Must be able to understand directions, communicate and respond to inquiries; requires effective interpersonal skills. Must be able to communicate effectively and have excellent public relations skills. Must be able to maintain composure and utilize tact in stressful situations.
