Actalent Senior Furnace Designer in Toledo, Ohio

Job Title: Sr. Glass Furnace DesignerJob Description

We are seeking a Sr. Glass Furnace Designer to join our engineering services team, supporting multiple manufacturing and architectural industries. This role offers the flexibility to work 100% remotely, in a hybrid capacity, or 100% on-site if you are located near one of our offices. This position requires 20%-40% travel to customer sites per year depending on project scope.

Responsibilities

  • Design and engineer industrial glass melting furnaces.

  • Primarily model utilizing AutoCAD 2D.

  • Utilize 3D modeling packages such as Inventor or SolidWorks depending on the client's standard.

  • Travel to view client shop floors, gather field measurements, and assist the project engineering team.

  • Interpret, organize, execute, and coordinate project assignments of various sizes.

  • Adhere to defined budget and quality control standards.

  • Independently solve design problems, practices, and methods.

  • Provide detailed design services for glass furnace and forehearth, refractory, and binding steel.

  • Assist in the design and layout of hot end operating systems such as furnace cooling wind, cooling water, and combustion system drawings.

  • Work with structural and mechanical engineers to develop scopes, specifications, and construction bid packages.

  • Lead a team of furnace designers and mechanical drafters, assigning work, coordinating overall furnace area projects, and reviewing the work of the project design team.

  • Check the progress of work and alert project managers to changes of scope or additional services.

  • Act as a technical leader for projects and work directly with clients to ensure adherence to overall project goals.

Essential Skills

  • 7+ years of recent mechanical design experience specifically for glass furnaces.

  • 10+ years of overall mechanical design experience post-graduation.

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD 2D.

  • Basic project management capabilities, including managing project budget, scope, schedule, and working under tight deadlines.

  • Experience with 3D modeling using Inventor or SolidWorks.

  • Minimum of an associate's degree or certification of completion of other post-secondary training in engineering or related field.

  • Hands-on experience with mechanical equipment (assisting with repairs, installing, building, etc.).

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • 15+ years of mechanical design experience for glass furnaces.

  • Self-starter with minimal oversight in execution of work.

  • Great attention to detail.

Work Environment

This position offers the flexibility to work from home, in an office setting, or in a shop floor setting while traveling. Travel is approximately 30% of the time, up to 2 weeks at a time but typically 1 week. The work environment is a collaborative, team-based setting with great tenure and support from subject matter experts.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.87 - $52.88
