Intellisense Systems Inc Technical Vice President, Chief Mechanical Designer in Torrance, California

Intellisense Systems, Inc., a leading Southern California technology innovator, solves mission-critical challenges for aerospace and defense customers.  We design, develop, and manufacture advanced products for ground, maritime, and airborne applications.

Intellisense Systems, Inc., is looking for a Technical Vice President, Chief Mechanical Designer to join our growing team in Southern California.   The successful candidate will demonstrate out-of-the-box creativity and a passion for mechanical design along with a knack for hands-on building and testing.

What You'll Do:

 

  • Perform as the lead responsible Mechanical Engineer on a multi-disciplinary team and across all departments and projects needing the most robust mechanical designs.

  • Design, analyze, and test avionics and other products with an emphasis on the successful transition of the design to production and uncompromising performance.

  • Lead design trade studies and make recommendations for design and program decisions

  • Ensure project compliance with the applicable Intellisense practices and performance standards.

  • Train and mentor other Mechanical Engineers in generating key deliverables to further develop the in-house knowledge base.

  • Contribute to proposals

  • Other duties as assigned

    What You'll Bring:

     

  • B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering or a related field

  • 20+ years of design experience in a product development and/or Research and Development capacity focused on aerospace or military systems.

  • Experience leading the mechanical design and development of multiple avionic systems that are currently deployed on airborne platforms ensuring functionality, performance, and integration with platform requirements.

  • Advanced proficiency in solid modeling using SolidWorks (preferred), Pro-E, or CATIA

  • Experience with design for manufacturing (DFM) and production processes for Aerospace or military electronics

  • Capable of producing part and assembly manufacturing drawings with an understanding of GD&T

  • Some experience with mechanical and thermal simulation packages (SolidWorks, ANSYS)

  • Well versed in a variety of manufacturing processes, including machining, rapid prototyping, injection molding, laser cutting, et c.

  • Ability to design out of the box with minimal input

  • Creativity, strong problem-solving skills, excellent technical writing, verbal communication, and presentation skills are essential including presenting design progress during major project milestones (e.g., SRR, PDR, CDR).

  • Self-starter and be willing to take full responsibility in delivering a quality product

  • Broad knowledge of manufacturing technologies a plus

  • Fun and open personality ready to work with a diverse team of engineers, program managers, and support staff.

    Nice To Haves:

     

  • Experience with MIL-STD testing (MIL-STD-810, DO-160, MIL-STD-461).

  • Experience in leading multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Machine shop/electromechanical skills for quick prototype testing and verification.

  • Strong understanding of physics with a natural desire to learn how things work.

  • US Citizenship

  • Willing and able to obtain a Security Clearance or have an active Secret Security Clearance

    Pay Range:

    $205,000-$290,000

    However, base salary for this position will vary based on your skills, qualifications, and experience.
