Position Summary: The Director will focus on Public Safety and Emergency Management core initiatives and capabilities that include program management, 24/7 operations and response structure, emergency plans, emergency notification, physical security, education, training and emergency exercises, workplace violence prevention, and other enhanced protection programs. The Director will partner and work closely with Northwest Region leadership and Public Safety and Emergency Management system leadership to ensure strategies, procedures, and initiatives are aligned with the Hartford HealthCare’s mission and vision for an integrated and optimized system-wide program. Key Accountabilities: * Ensure a safe and secure environment for patients, colleagues and the community within the Hartford Region. Provide opportunities for engagement and management during risk assessments, goal setting, improvement priorities, monitoring progress and further evaluation of the effectiveness of the department * Ensure the Public Safety and Emergency Management strategy protects the organization’s assets while simultaneously balances and ensures a consumer driven focus related to patients, support service colleagues, clinicians and physicians. Implement education, training, tools and resources * Provide routine updates, important and timely information to all constituent groups. Establish and maintain open communication with colleagues, and other department leaders to foster trust, understanding and respect. Conduct and coordinate huddles, department meetings as applicable and ensure the HHC operating model is utilized * Develop business cases, and seek approval and funding to address safety and emergency projects focusing on improvements in systems, people strength, processes, and technology, designed to provide a safe and secure environment in a changing industry * Provide training in partnership with HHC Public Safety Training by delivering programs that empower our community to be safer and more secure. Training includes, but is not limited to: CPI, MOAB, ALICE, OC, Guard Card Instructor, etc. * Serve as the leader for protection activities, including workplace violence, threats and security events. Facilitate work through visual management, cascade to leaders and other Councils * Develop and prepare an annual operating budget and ensure the department operates within allocated funds. Maintain records and statistics for administrative and regulatory purposes. Apply cost-effective measures in department operations * Develop and ensure regulatory compliance with all department policies, processes, guidelines and standards in addition to CMS, Joint Commission, CT DPH, among others. Participate in and provide updates including compliance data during Environment of Care, Safety and other related committee meetings * Develop and maintain internal and external relationships that may include local, state, federal and other public and private partners in law enforcement and emergency management * Ensure colleague engagement and action plans are achieved successfully; establish performance expectations; coach, develop and evaluates performance to enable colleagues to be successful in contributing to the achievement and individual and department objectives, and to ensure high quality services are delivered * Bachelor’s degree in related field including, public, healthcare or business administration, program management, leadership, criminal justice or criminology, emergency management, risk management or non-profit management is required * Seven plus years of public safety, security or emergency management leadership experience is required. Experience in a healthcare environment is preferred * Previous or current service in first responder or clinical community including: firefighting, law enforcement, emergency medical services (EMT, Paramedic) is required * ICS 100, ICS 200, NIMS 700 and NIMS 800 certification either at time of hire or ability to obtain post hire * Demonstrated ability to provide leadership, grow engagement, manage multiple and diverse relationships, and influence both internal and external organizations, leaders, and colleagues * Ability to partner with leaders to identify opportunity areas, lead improvement projects and ensure the implementation of standard work is completed across the organization * Able to prioritize work by making informed judgments and to develop solutions for complex problems * Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to prepare and present material, documents and instill confidence in the content that is being provided to Executive Leaders, other leaders and colleagues * Independently analyze, manage change in a fast-paced environment and solve a variety of difficult situations, problem events, and emergencies * Strong skills in Microsoft Office, general technology and electronic public safety and emergency management tools, resources and equipment * Knowledge of regulatory requirements such as CMS, Joint Commission, OSHA, NFPA, IAHSS, ASIS, among others \ * Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practice of healthcare, emergency management, safety, security, and public safet We take great care of careers.
