U.S. Marine Corps ENGINEERING EQUIPMENT OPERATOR SUPERVISOR in Townsend, Georgia

Summary This announcement uses the Certain Personnel of the DoD direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. Responsibilities You will responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating all segments of range maintenance providing a completely integrated maintenance program aboard the Townsend Bombing Range (TBR). You will ensure safe operation of all range maintenance functions by continuous development of safe and efficient range maintenance procedures by establishing the safest and simplest procedures possible. You will participate in studies of TBR to determine the adequacy of TBR to accommodate projected requirements of land expansion and development, environmental planning, target development and facility maintenance. You will develop long and short—range plans for renovation, modernization, modification, automation, deactivation, and conversion/ commissioning of range facilities. You will enforce the use of safety clothing and equipment operation. You will be responsible for training subordinates in work methods and procedures, safe work practices, and proper operations of facility and target maintenance, and equipment operations. Education Additional Information This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program. Several vacancies may be filled. PHYSICAL EFFORT Standing, walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, crawling and climbing are involved. Work must frequently be lead or done in a cramped and uncomfortable position. Must be capable of adjusting to rapid changes in work and/or procedures. There is much tiring movement of arms, lifting, carrying and setting up of heavy equipment involved. Heaviest weight handled averages 50 pounds with weight handling equipment available for heavier loads. When operating engineering equipment heavy physical effort in constantly reaching, bending, turning, and moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to handle different sets of controls to operate the equipment and attachments. There is strain caused by the constant vibration of the equipment and the jerking and jolting from operating over rough surfaces. Because of the location of some of the controls and attachments, the operators are frequently required to work in awkward or strained positions. WORKING CONDITIONS Work is performed inside and outside, inside will be normal office conditions. Incumbent may be exposed to all kinds of weather including extended periods of exposure to hot and cold temperatures. Employees are subjected to dust, dirt, oil, and unpleasant odors, as well as fumes, flames and the possibility of wild fire suppression, etc. Must maintain situational awareness in order to avoid falling on wet, slippery surfaces. Also subject to cuts, bruises, broken bones, etc. as a result of accidents while operating heavy equipment or performing target and facility maintenance. HAZARDS Subject to operating vehicles on unstable land, falls when working from ladders and scaffolds, venomous insects, burns from hot material and broken bones working around heavy equipment.
