The Manager, Accounting will be a pro-active and hands-on with the responsibility of assisting with the managing and coordinating the month-end and quarter-end accounting close processes. This includes reviewing monthly and quarterly journal entries and account reconciliations, reviewing the roll-up of accounts and entries, and working cross-functionally across the broader organization in a rapidly changing and growing environment. This role involves the oversight of the Company’s monthly Purchase Order (PO) accrual process, which involves dedicated time and communication with other business partners outside of Accounting and Finance. In addition, this position will have a pivotal role in the Company’s compliance with the requirements of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 (SOX), working with management and our audit function to minimize risk and analyze critical business areas as the Company expands.

Candidates will need to work a hybrid schedule within our Towson, Maryland office. From time to time, traveling and working onsite at other office locations and/or work-related travel may be necessary.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the Company’s monthly, quarterly and annual general ledger close process, working with the accounting team (Corporate Accounting, SEC Reporting, Accounts Payable, Expense Reporting) and Operational Finance

  • Review and approve monthly journal entries associated with accruals (compensation, legal, unrecorded accounts payable, etc), leases, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, and other adhoc entries as necessary

  • Oversee the monthly Open PO accrual process

  • Review monthly and quarterly account reconciliations

  • Prepare and coordinate the monthly and quarterly financial statement leadsheet tie-out process

  • Review and update lease memos

  • Assist with development and maintenance of internal control structure and ensure SOX requirements are met for accounting processes

  • Work closely with operational finance teams and cross-functionally to ensure efficiencies and accuracy of accruals and estimates and integrity of the financial statements

  • Maintain integrity of the Company’s accounting systems

  • Proactively identify, implement, and drive process improvements including system enhancements and integrations, policy changes, as well as promoting process standardization and adoption of best practices

  • Complete other projects, memos, presentations, and duties as required

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required in accounting, finance or business

  • CPA, and/or advanced degree in Accounting, Finance preferred

  • 5+ years related experience with combination of public and corporate accounting preferred.

  • Biotech or pharmaceutical industry experience preferred

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel

  • Knowledge of U.S. GAAP accounting and pronouncements

  • Oracle Fusion ERP training and experience preferred

  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral)

  • Ability to collaborate internally with other teams involved in the accounting and reporting process

  • Detail-oriented with outstanding organization and problem solving skills

  • Results driven team player who leads by example and takes full ownership of work

  • Demonstration of a high level of character and ethics acting in line with a clear and visible set of values & beliefs

Manager, Accounting - Base Salary Range $115,000 - $140,000
