At CPM, we are committed to growth and innovation. To support our expanding operations, we are seeking a qualified and ambitious Project Manager. In this role, you will ensure the successful planning and execution of international projects, acting as a crucial liaison between sales, engineering, manufacturing, and project staff.

Overall Responsibility:

Oversee multiple projects from post-purchase order through to closeout, ensuring smooth departmental communication, compliance with contracts and specifications, and timely, within-budget deliveries. Report to the Senior Project Manager.

Location: This role is remote, but candidates must be within a reasonable distance to our Traverse City office for on-site visits.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the main contact between sales and customers throughout the project.

  • Prepare presentation documents, including functional specifications, cost estimations, and risk assessments.

  • Conduct preliminary reviews of technical project requests and facilitate communication between suppliers and internal departments.

  • Oversee deadlines, costs, milestones, and customer satisfaction across all project phases.

  • Facilitate cooperation between design, manufacturing, logistics, development, and purchasing teams.

  • Conduct pre-order, kick-off, and progress meetings internally and with customers, sub-suppliers and engineering representatives.

  • Review and administer commercial documentation.

  • Coordinate and process contract deliverables, such as invoicing and drawing submittals.

  • Create and manage change orders and perform job cost analysis.

  • Monitor all project aspects to ensure cohesion.

  • Identify and notify project milestones, deliverables, and invoicing.

  • Advise on project documentation requirements and filing for archives.

  • Travel domestically and internationally to support project meetings and activities (25 % annually).

  • Perform additional related duties as required.

    Project Management Work:

  • Execute projects after sales have won the order.

  • Maintain and create project schedules.

  • Manage project budgets.

  • Report on project status to management.

  • Conduct technical and financial discussions with customers and vendors.

  • Maintain and develop vendor relationships.

  • Lead lessons learned process post-project completion.

  • Participate in development projects, particularly regarding electrical and controls.

  • Contribute to improvements in the project management process.

  • Support other departments and projects, including checking/commenting on offers and proposals, supporting sales and estimation with proposals for systems projects, and process development.

  • Create technical documentation.

  • Support during installation and commissioning.

    Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a technical field (e.g., electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, process engineering) or completed technical vocational training with at least five years of industrial experience.

  • PMI certification is a plus but not required.

    Experience:

  • Over three years of industrial experience in an engineering/mechanical project management position.

  • Experience with capital equipment projects, including client relationships, engineering, construction, and cost/schedule management.

    Skills and Attributes:

  • Ability to work in a non-structured, entrepreneurial environment.

  • Strong communication skills to respond to inquiries or complaints from clients, contractors, and consultants.

  • Knowledge of legal and ethical processes during project execution and site supervision.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

  • Ability to communicate in a second language (European or Asian languages preferred but not required).

    Technical Skills:

  • Must have familiarity with an ERP system like SAP.

  • Proficiency in MS Office, MS Visio, and SharePoint.

  • Experience with PFD (Process Flow Diagram) and P&ID (Process and Instrumentation Diagram).

  • Ability to read, understand, and comment on technical drawings.

  • Special engineering business.
