Description

General Summary

Autoclave Workers are responsible for monitoring and operating autoclaves (high-pressure steam sterilizers) to sterilize medical and laboratory instruments, equipment and supplies. They ensure that the autoclave is operating correctly and safely and that the correct sterilization parameters have been met.

Essential Duties

  • Maintain and operate autoclave equipment

  • Carry out all processes in accordance to safety regulations and guidelines

  • Monitor and adjust autoclave parameters as needed

  • Conduct regular maintenance and cleaning of autoclave equipment

  • Troubleshoot any malfunctions and make necessary repairs

  • Reports any conditions requiring maintenance attention or repair to immediate supervisor

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Experience and Skill Requirements

  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions

  • Knowledge of safety protocols related to autoclave operation

  • Experience with sterilization cycle validation

  • Knowledge of current autoclave technology

  • Good manual dexterity

Work Environment

  • Physical demands include continuous movement, including frequent standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, climbing, pushing, pulling, reaching, and other use of hands.

  • Be able to lift 50 pounds

  • Varying work shifts
