Job Summary

The Senior Prospect Research Analyst conducts in-depth data analysis and research, evaluates and summarizes financial information, and prepares reports and briefings for principal and major gift officers and senior leadership. The Analyst identifies high-level prospects and donors, creates detailed dossiers, and directs division-wide staff to maintain accurate, up-to-date records. Additionally, the analyst takes part in strategy development plans related to key prospects. The Analyst assists in onboarding and/or training of staff and works with Institute Advancement’s (IA) research analysts to review deliverables, provide feedback to ensure accuracy and uniformity of content.

The Analyst partners with staff, as well as developers and consultants, to conceptualize database reporting tools and exports. The Analyst also provides leadership in building out these tools and exports by designing report layouts, selecting key data points, providing feedback, identifying issues, and finding solutions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in advancement research, development, fundraising, and/or equivalent experience.

Relevant combinations of education, training and experience may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree

  • Experience in support of a university advancement operation

Minimum Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities

  • Independent, self-starter with strong customer service skills

  • In-depth research experience, including the ability to collect, evaluate, and synthesize complex data, develop insightful takeaways and present information clearly and cohesively

  • Strong analytical and writing skills with the ability to synthesize and organize material from multiple sources and articulate findings clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing

  • Ability to utilize web-based databases to conduct research

  • Working knowledge of computer-based database processes for managing, tracking and reporting data

  • Excellent writing and proofreading skills, careful attention to detail, and commitment to consistent formatting

  • Experience in writing logical and detailed reports with a high degree of accuracy

  • Fluency in computer technologies, including proficiency with manipulating and retrieving data, building queries, managing news alerts, and using electronic subscription services

  • Experience with information segmentation and database systems, including Blackbaud CRM or similar resources

  • Ability to work independently and as part of team

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint

  • Excellent interpersonal skills. Experience in interacting with a diverse population across a variety of administrative levels

  • Experience managing deadline-driven multiple and diverse tasks

Shift

Business Hours: Monday - Friday

Starting Salary/Rate

Expected hiring range: $70,000 - $80,000

This hiring range is provided as Rensselaer’s good faith estimate of the expected hiring range at the time of posting.
