Job Description

The OR Nurse Manager works along side and oversees a team of nurses in the operating room, ensuring efficient patient care and adherence to protocols. They collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to maintain high standards of surgical services. While management experience is not required, strong clinical skills and leadership abilities are essential.

1. Clinical Oversight:

• Supervise nursing staff during surgical procedures, emphasizing safety, infection control, and patient comfort.

• Ensure proper sterilization of equipment and adherence to aseptic techniques.

• Collaborate with surgeons and anesthesia providers to optimize patient outcomes.

2. Staff Development:

• Recruit, train, and mentor nursing staff, emphasizing best practices and continuous learning.

• Create work schedules, considering staff availability and patient needs.

• Foster a positive work environment that encourages teamwork and professional growth.

3. Quality Assurance:

• Monitor compliance with current laws, regulations, and hospital policies.

• Implement quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care.

• Address any patient or staff concerns promptly and effectively.

4. Budget Management:

• Assist in managing the department budget, including supplies, staffing, and equipment.

• Collaborate with administrative staff to optimize resource allocation.

5. Record Keeping:

• Maintain accurate records related to patient care, staff performance, and surgical outcomes.

• Ensure timely documentation and reporting.

Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) required; Master's degree preferred.

• Licensure: Current RN license in the state of practice.

• Experience:

• Minimum of 3 years of circulating experience in the operating room.

• Prior management experience is not mandatory but is a plus.

• Skills:

• Strong clinical skills, including familiarity with surgical procedures and sterile techniques.

• Leadership abilities, effective communication, and conflict resolution skills.

Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) systems.
