The Quality Manager reports directly to the Plant Manager and is responsible for the successful management and maintenance of the Tucson Plant Quality System (ISO 9001:2015), and quality control plan including customer, 3rd party and internal audits. This position also manages the Quality Engineering and Inspection Departments, reporting key business metrics and utilizing those teams to achieve plant goals. The Quality Manager will focus on plant quality processes and systems, including product release, customer complaints investigations, auditing, corrective actions, continuous improvement, process control through batch documentation and documents control, management review and change management.
You will have the opportunity to:
Identify and implement projects with a direct impact on COPQ, utilizing project management tools and evaluating project effectiveness
Track and report quality metrics and develop and execute plans to meet established goals
Maintain and manage site quality management system including effective system to control and manage documents and records and ensuring laboratory personnel and instrumentation meets performance standard
Prepare, submit, and meet department budget
Manage the customer complaint process to meet customer satisfaction goals and respond to customer inquiries in a timely manner, leading root cause analyses and corrective actions for non-conformance and deviations by ensuring teams are utilizing adequate problem-solving tools and responding with 8Ds
Coach the organization for timely disposition and movement of raw materials, in-process materials, and finished product through the plant
Manage 3rd party Quality Systems audits (ISO 9001:2015), customer audits, and internal process and QMS audits
Coordinate the activities related to assessing and developing new processes, new inspection equipment and testing procedures in accordance with quality management system
Represent the plant during customer visits/meetings and cross-functional Materion meetings. Assist sales, customer service, and operations with customer requirements, contract reviews, specification reviews and new product introductions
Define, plan, and execute projects directed at quality improvements to reduce defects and variation in the products we produce
Review and support business unit compliance with applicable industry, federal government regulations (FAR/DFARS), state department regulations (ITAR), and military quality systems and specifications
REQUIREMENTS:
Undergraduate engineering, chemistry, materials science, ceramics, or other technical degree from an accredited College or University
Six Sigma or Lean Sigma GB/BB certification desired. If not already certified, the ability to learn and apply Lean and Six Sigma skills is required
Minimum 7 years of experience in quality engineering, 3 years in Supervision / Management
In depth knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 quality systems and certification as a lead auditor
Experience in PPAP submissions, Process Control Plans, FMEAs, inspection planning
M inimal travel based on business needs
Ability to work safely in a manufacturing environment
Strong management and coaching skills. Must possess effective facilitation skills and an ability to work with all levels of the organization. Strong listening and questioning skills
Must possess a strong understanding of change management concepts and a history of successful application of change management
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, etc.) required. Knowledge of SAP a plus
A detail-oriented approach is valued. Strong investigative and problem-solving skills
Must possess the ability to effectively manage customer relationships, promptly respond to queries, assure promises are kept and manage customer expectations
Must possess a willingness to learn new skills, work habits, processes, and procedures

The selection of the person to be hired for this position is contingent on the candidate having export compliance eligibility for access to U.S. controlled technology which comes under the licensing jurisdiction of the U.S. Department of State, International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and the U.S. Department of Commerce, Export Administration Regulations (EAR).
