Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is seeking a senior-level engineer to fill the Transportation Engineer 3 vacancy located in Tumwater, WA. This position will serve as the Fabrication Inspection Engineer, responsible for supporting Statewide highway construction projects by providing expert and timely inspection of highway materials being fabricated and shipped to project work sites. Under the direct supervision of the AWS Certified Welding Inspectors, this position will inspect all steel structures statewide including structures for the Washington State Ferries system (WSF). These structures include steel highway bridges, bridge bearings, steel pedestrian bridges, sign structures, field-welded structural steel, field-welded reinforcing steel, and sandblast and coating operations. With minimal supervision, this position also will serve as a staff specialist inspecting all types of structures inspected by the Fabrication Inspection Office. This includes the inspection of shop-fabricated prestressed concrete structures, precast concrete "Three Sided Structures", precast concrete structural earth walls, retaining walls, precast concrete vaults, treated timber and lumber, wood bridges, and fabricated steel drainage frames and grates.
