What is an insurance premium audit?
- An insurance premium audit looks back at a company's payroll and/or sales records and reports these figures to the insurance carrier who will then use the information gathered from the audit to determine actual exposures to risk and calculate the premium due from the insured for the policy they have written. Typically, insurance companies will perform an audit at the end of every policy period, as well as when a policy is cancelled.
What happens during an insurance premium audit?
- During an insurance premium audit, an auditor will examine the insured's financial records and pull the payroll or sales figures required based on the type of policy written by the carrier and report those figures in an automated audit report. Additionally, the auditor will interview the insured and obtain a detailed description of the business as well as information that will assist in helping to properly classify the insured's employees, per the type of policy the carrier has written.
