NBC Universal Business Solutions/Technical Operations Internships - Media Tech Summer 2025 in Universal City, California

At our Universal City office interns will have access to the NBCUCommutes program, which provides fully subsidized transit passes to full-time lower lot employees, good for unlimited rides on all Metro bus and rail, such as the Metro Red Line. 

 

Summer 2025 Recruitment Timeline:

September 16 – October 4: Applications Open (may close early due to applicant volume)  

Mid-September – Late October: First round video interviews   

Early to mid-November: Second round interviews  

Late November: Selected candidates receive offers  

Summer 2025 Internship Program: 

  • Applications Close: October 4th at 11:59pm ET. Pro Tip: Submit your application as soon as possible – applications could close earlier due to applicant volume!  

  • Program Dates: June 2 – August 8, 2025 

  • Time Commitment: 40 hours per week. Exact schedule to be determined based on business need.  

  • Format: Opportunities listed will require an intern to work from Universal City, CA.

Here at NBCU, we strive to be on the forefront of leading-edge technology and are seeking a savvy troop of technologists we call Media Tech Interns.   

Our program exposes students to technical opportunities across NBCUniversal’s Operations & Technology organizations and serves as a main pipeline into our Rotational Associate Programs. As a NBCUniversal Media Tech Intern, you will gain hands-on experience, allowing you to apply your classroom knowledge to practical situations. We offer a 2 day in-person orientation in our NY office where we bring all interns together to meet each other and various business leaders.   

Students will experience firsthand how one of the largest media and entertainment companies in the world operates and delivers strategic, innovative solutions. 

Areas of placement may include, but are not limited to: 

  

  • Tech Ops, Brand Development: You will be part of the high-visibility, strategic UP&E Operational Excellence team in charge of maintaining business and IT system and process health, common tools and processes, knowledge management. The OE group is part of the Universal Products and Experiences IT team supporting the explosively growing NBCUniversal Consumer Products business. We recently moved to Salesforce Case Management for our end user ticketing and support tool after years with Zendesk. We need to move beyond the current “Minimal Viable Product” to advanced phases of our roadmap. Additionally, we are migrating from Atlassian Service Center to Atlassian Cloud for both Jira software development and Confluence knowledge management tools. These two efforts must support each other (e.g., providing known solutions from knowledge base for FAQs). The matched candidate will work closely with the UP&E Technology team to identify and analyze requirements, and with various Engineering teams to translate those requirements into effective solutions. A formal project plan and solution specification will be created and monitored against by the candidate in frequent updates to the team’s stakeholders and leadership. 

     

  • Tech Ops, Advanced Engineering Standards & Policy: Studio Mastering and Content Operations (SMCO) - works within the Tech Ops Organization facilitating the receipt of archival masters and related archival materials for the Global Supply Chain and the NBCU Archive (both digital and physical) that support the distribution and servicing of Universal Pictures Films. The Mastering portion of SMCO interacts with various internal and external partners and oversees the creation of master’s for both Archive and Servicing along with maintaining the specifications for delivery to the studio to ensure the feature films produced by Universal Pictures can be exploited across the supply chain. The Intern will interact with production groups, engineering, fulfillment, and vendors to understand the workflow and create a V1 Specification for a future state of Interoperable Master Format (IMF).   

     

  • Tech Ops, Metadata Governance: As a Media Tech Intern, you will gain hands-on experience in the field of Metadata Governance. The Metadata Governance Team plays a crucial role in ensuring the effective management and utilization of metadata to support Universal Pictures Home Entertainment. The team collates and curates consumer-facing metadata and artwork for physical and digital products. Upcoming projects include data collection and cleansing to ensure data quality and consistency. This internship provides a valuable opportunity to develop project management skills and gain insight into the dynamics of managing projects in a professional setting. 

Basic Requirements: 

  • Must be actively enrolled in a degree-granting program at an accredited institution during the entire duration of the program (June 2025 through August 2025). May 2025 graduates are not eligible for our Summer 2025 Internship Program. 

  • Current class standing of sophomore or above (30 credits). 

  • Must be presently authorized to work for any employer in the United States and must not require work visa sponsorship from NBCUniversal now or in the future to retain authorization to work in the United States. 

  • Must be willing to work in Universal City, CA. 

For further clarification, candidates currently on any student or exchange visa (e.g. F-1 CPT, F-1 OPT, J-1, M-1) are not eligible to apply unless they will be able to change or adjust to another status that grants work authorization without NBCUniversal sponsorship.  

NBCUniversal is an E-Verify company, requiring all employees to have an active Social Security number. Any candidate receiving an internship offer must complete I-9 form with Social Security number within 3 days of hire.   

Desired Characteristics: 

  • Students with class standing of junior or above preferred. 

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above. 

  • Familiarity in 2 or more of the following: Requirement Elicitation and Codification, including Use Case Development (e.g., OOA&D, ERD, value stream mapping, process flows). 

  • Experience in project management, and test plan development and execution. 

  • Experience in solution specification and aspects implementation. 

  • Understanding of file system structures / codecs. 

  • Knowledge of transcoding. 

  • Ability to research, gather data and present findings in an analytical manner. 

  • Knowledge of Smartsheet. 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). 

     

The hourly rate for undergraduate student interns is $30.00 

The hourly rate for graduate student interns is $30.00 

The hourly rate for MBA student interns is $30.00
