JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: The laboratory of Manuel Llinas at The Pennsylvania State University seeks an assistant research professor to work on projects in malaria parasite metabolism during development. Metabolism projects will use mass spectrometry-based metabolomics to explore antimalarial drug responses, lipoate scavenging and lipoate metabolism, genotype/metabolite associations in genetic crosses, and the metabolism of antimalarial drug resistance. Candidates with strong track records of accomplishment in the following areas are strongly encouraged to apply: Plasmodium biochemistry, metabolomics, or mass spectrometry. A strong background in parasitology is desirable, but not necessary. The candidate will be expected to lead their own individual projects as well as contributing to collaborative research efforts.

Exceptional opportunities are available for highly motivated candidates who have received their Ph.D. and have a strong publication record, regardless of their specific area of expertise.

Dr. Llinas is the Ernest C. Pollard Professor in Biotechnology in the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology and Department of Chemistry, and a member of the Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences where he is the co-director of the Center for Malaria Research and participates in the Center for Infectious Disease Dynamic and the Center for Eukaryotic Gene Regulation.

This position requires previous postdoctoral experience in a scientific discipline.

This is a limited term position funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of refunding.

This position will require successful completion of standard background checks.
