JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: The Clearinghouse for Military Family Readiness (Clearinghouse) at The Pennsylvania State University, University Park, is seeking applications for a Data Scientist to support data analytics for our funded research projects.

The Clearinghouse is an applied research center, nationally recognized for its work on improving the health and well-being of military service members and their families. Projects focus on topics such as parenting, building family resilience, preventing family violence, enhancing child and youth development, suicide prevention, obesity prevention, evaluation of mental health treatments, veteran transitions from military to civilian life, and families at risk, among numerous others.

Responsibilities of the position include the following: Merge and integrate large and complex data sets, including longitudinal research studies, programmatic data, and other publicly available data sets Develop and apply appropriate models to answer research questions Complete statistical analysis for cross sectional and longitudinal data sets Create visual products (e.g., charts, graphs, dashboards) to effectively communicate data findings to external stakeholders Contribute to the development of written products such as research proposals, reports, policy briefs, and peer-reviewed journal articles Analyze and translate findings into accessible summaries and presentations for diverse audiences, including funders, policymakers, and the general public Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including researchers, program staff, and external partners, to support project objectives

Education and Experience: Minimum requirements include a completed Bachelor's degree and 1+ years of relevant experience. A Master's degree and additional experience are preferred. Proficiency in statistical software programs and environments (e.g. Mplus, R, SAS, SPSS, Stata) Familiarity with social sciences research methodologies and practices Competency in data management, including cleaning, integration, organization, documentation, and quality assurance Ability and experience translating complex data into clear summaries for lay audiences Strong writing skills

Work Arrangement: This position offers a flexible work arrangement and can operate remotely or in a hybrid model within the US. Standard work times will be in EST.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is: $61,800.00 - $115,100.00
