JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The Materials Research Institute (MRI) is accepting applications for a Digital M arketing Specialist . The Materials Research Institute (MRI) is Penn State’s catalyst for multidisciplinary education, research, and innovation in materials. The MRI has three open - access core research facilities that enable materials synthesis, nanofabrication, and characterization. MRI supports faculty across the university by marketing our successes and seeding new opportunities.
Join our creative marketing and communications team , which consists of a Marketing Director, Technical Writer and Editor, Graphic Designer , and Multimedia Specialist who create and support a broad spectrum of marketing activities across various platforms. Our team’s goal is to provide quality, high-end stories and visuals that ultimately support MRI’s mission , vision , and strategic plan.
MRI is looking for a dynamic individual who will support our marketing team's collective efforts while also bringing fresh and innovative ideas to the table. This role involves collaborating with team members to execute a variety of marketing strategies, including writ ing internal and external communications, optimizing web site user experiences, and increasing social media presence and audience base . The applicant must have strong communication skil ls, experience using Drupal web platform ( front and back end ) , Microsoft Sharepoint intranet platforms, experience with video editing, knowledge of social media platforms and their user types, experience with Nextcloud media server s and services, and prior involvement in event planning and event engagement.
The ideal candidate will actively participate in brainstorming sessions, contribute to the development of creative content, and help enhance our overall marketing initiatives. This position offers a unique opportunity to grow professionally while making a significant impact on our marketing efforts , which ultimately expands the visibility of MRI’s online digital presence .
Responsibilities:
Assist and coordinate the production of marketing and/or promotional communications that follow the unit’s approved strategic marketing plan and objectives
Edit and proofread publications, including websites, internal and external email , social articles and posts , brochures, feature stories, etc.
Manage and maintain multiple Drupal websites by updating content as requested by staff and technical staff
Work with staff to maintain and update content on the MRI’s Intranet
Assist in generating supporting content for news articles , social media articles and posts , magazines , and other internal or external communications
Interface with strategic communications to facilitate projects
Monitor news and media presence and report to the team in weekly meetings
A ssist in growing our media contact list with input from faculty and Dynamics Power-CRM Insights
Contribute to p lan ning and support ing the implementation of event promotions
Collaborate in the planning of marketing and/or communications strategy
With assistance from the team, manage the Nextcloud media server and media files
Ensure compliance with accessibility standards, contractual obligations, confidentiality and privacy policies, and style and standard guidelines
Time management. We are a busy team; we count on each other to deliver high-quality projects on time
Experience and knowledge using Microsoft Office 365 suite and A dobe Creative Cloud suite are required.
Preferred (but not required ) skills:
Knowledge or experience using server-side web applications and configurations
Knowledge or experience managing Drupal 10 core and module updates and configurations
Design media using Adobe Express
Ability to assist in video post-production editing and closed captioning
Knowledge or experience using 360° virtual tour software

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:
$46,400.00 - $67,300.00
