JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State (https://psu.edu) ’s College of Agricultural Sciences (https://agsci.psu.edu) , Information Technologies (Ag IT) is seeking innovative, collaborative, and experienced candidates for an Information Technology Consultant position. This role will serve as a liaison between college faculty, staff, and students, and the Ag IT unit, offering guidance on integrating technology into teaching, research, extension, and learning activities. The ideal candidate will cultivate a deep understanding of clients' work and their unique technological requirements, actively researching solutions to meet ongoing needs and collaborating closely with clients to ensure successful implementation. Additionally, they will take a lead role in training both clients and Ag IT Helpdesk staff on system enhancements, new technologies, and procedural updates. Continuously exploring avenues for improving services and delivery methods within the Ag IT unit will also be a key responsibility.

This position will also provide essential support to the Ag IT Help Desk, focusing on delivering top-tier, customer-centric computing assistance. Tasks will encompass troubleshooting computer hardware, applications, system configurations, peripherals, and networking issues. Root cause analysis of technical incidents, ranging from routine to intricate, will be conducted, with collaborative efforts aimed at resolving problems alongside Ag IT and university IT teams.

  • Communication Proficiency: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of conveying complex technical concepts clearly and effectively to individuals with varying levels of technical proficiency.

  • Collaborative Aptitude: Track record of successful collaboration with diverse groups, fostering an environment that prioritizes diversity, equity, and inclusion.

  • Time Management: Strong time management abilities, with a demonstrated capacity to work autonomously, prioritize tasks, and consistently meet deadlines.

  • Technical Proficiency: Proficient in installing, testing, evaluating, monitoring, and troubleshooting new technologies to ensure seamless functionality and alignment with user requirements. Basic systems administration and management skills are essential.

  • Training Development: Capability to provide comprehensive training on complex systems and applications, with potential for developing training materials as needed.

  • Resourcefulness and Proactiveness: A proactive approach to information gathering, idea sharing, and driving positive change within the organization.

  • Operating System Expertise: Expert knowledge of the Windows operating system, coupled with a strong working understanding of Apple operating systems.

  • Technology Proficiency: Broad understanding of technology, equipment, and systems utilized by college faculty and staff, including familiarity with Office 365, G-Suite, Zoom, and other relevant University services.

This position has a flexible work arrangement, with the expectation of being on University Park campus at least two days a week. This is a limited term position funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of refunding.

Education and Experience:

Minimum requirements include a Bachelor's Degree and one or more years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience .

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$61,800.00 - $89,600.00
