JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Dr. Scott Selleck with The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology seeksto hire a student to assistfaculty with the following job duties:

Students will assist with genetic experiments examining if reductions of heparan sulfate biosynthesis can suppress neuronal loss in a Drosophila model of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis mediated by expression of C90rf72. This entails setting up genetic crosses, measures of cell loss in the adult brain, behavioral studies of animals, and potentially, RNAseq analysis.

Computational analysis of RNAseq data from mammalian cells with compromised heparan sulfate biosynthesis examining effects of major metabolic pathways. This task involved assessment of complex patterns of gene expression using a variety of computational tools, literature searches on key components of glucose and lipid metabolism, as well as mitochondrial localized protein encoding genes.
