    Position Summary:

    The Design Manager is responsible for overseeing the planning, design, and construction of health care facilities, including hospitals, clinics, and specialized medical centers. This role ensures that all projects meet the required standards for functionality, safety, and aesthetics, while also adhering to regulatory guidelines and budget constraints. The Design Manager collaborates with architects, engineers, healthcare professionals, and contractors to create environments that enhance patient care and operational efficiency. Manages the Carle Health Design team consisting of Interior designers and CAD Operators, and collaborates with the Contraction Management team throughout the construction process.

    EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's Degree - Architecture or equivalent

    CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS

  • Licensure: Registered Architect State, Illinois

    EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • 7 years experience in Healthcare Design and Construction preferred

    SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

  • Proficient in REVIT, AutoCAD and standard Office Software

  • Working knowledge of AIA minimum guidelines for healthcare construction and local building codes, the NIAHO® Physical Environment Standards, ISO 9001:2015, NFPA 101®, NFPA 99®, OSHA, and how these are applied within the healthcare setting.

  • Applies critical thinking; Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Demonstrate skills in converting abstract ideas into direction drawings and designs that are easily understood

    Essential Functions:

  • Assist leadership in the prioritization of strategic capital projects and selected discretionary capital projects

  • Lead and manage multiple health care design projects from concept to completion.

  • Develop clinical programming, space programming, project scopes, budgets, and design schedules.

  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders and external consultants.

  • Monitor project progress and ensure adherence to the design and clinical priorities and timelines.

  • Provide creative and technical leadership throughout the design process

  • Ensure that design solutions align with the best practices and Carle Health Standards.

  • Incorporate evidence-based design principles to enhance patient experience and staff efficiency.

  • Ensure all designs comply with relevant health care regulations and standards, including ADA, OSHA, and local building codes.

  • Stay updated on changes in health care regulations and industry standards.

  • Collaborate with clinical and administrative staff

  • Understands needs and translate them into design solutions.

  • Facilitate user group meetings and gather feedback for design improvements.

  • Act as the primary point of contact between the design team and healthcare facility management.

  • Provide expertise in the selection of materials and technologies that promote health and safety.

  • Oversee the integration of medical equipment and technology into the designs utilizing 4Tower.

  • Ensure designs accommodate future technological

  • advancements and expansions.

  • Conduct regular site visits to ensure construction quality and design intent are maintained.

  • Review and approve construction drawings and specifications.

  • Implement quality control processes to ensure project deliverables meet the required standards.

  • Promote sustainable design practices and materials.

  • Implement energy-efficient solutions to reduce operational costs and environmental impact.

  • Seek LEED or other relevant certifications for health care facilities.

  • Reviews potential renovations and future buildings for compliance with the municipal planning commission

  • Obtains all necessary approvals and permits.

  • Through coordination with the users produce plans and specifications for smaller projects

  • Manages the Carle Health Design team.

  • Support facilities space and move process to align with the Master Plan of each facility.

  • Space Allocation management utilizing Archibus.

  • Manage the Facilities Record Drawings

  • Manage the interior finish & furniture standards

  • Manage internal refresh project prioritization
