    Position Summary:

    To gather electrodiagnostic data through the performance and recording of electrodiagnostic procedures, including motor and sensory nerve conduction studies and somatosensory evoked potentials. The tech also takes a brief history of the patient including the symptoms that that required the referral for the EMG.

    Qualifications:

    EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS H.S. Diploma/GED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Minimum one (1) year EMG technician experience required, with formal training under the direction of a physician. SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE Good interpersonal skills and communication. Basic computer knowledge required.

    Essential Functions:

  • -Performs motor and sensory nerve conduction studies and somatosensory evoked potentials

  • Maintains a clean work environment, ordering supplies, and ensures that clean gowns are on hard.

  • -Promotes patient safety by reporting of issues through established channels and participating as requested in safety initiatives.

  • -Actively participates in departmental meetings and continuing education programs.

  • -Complies with organization and departmental patient satisfaction initiatives. Serves as a role model for meeting the needs and expectations of patients and families.

  • -Insures that the examination room is properly prepared for the patient.

  • -Prepares the patient by assisting in removal of clothing, braces, and patient transfer to the examination table.

  • -Assists the physician in preparing for the procedure by properly positioning the patient, applying surface electrodes as directed, and labeling and organizing electromyographic printouts.

  • -Calibrates equipment according to departmental policy to insure proper working order.

  • -Generally assists in maintenance of equipment in safe working order.

  • -Records accurate results / data from electrodiagnostic procedures.

  • Assists the physician by running the EMG unit and the computer to produce written documentation according to departmental policy.

  • -Effectively manages computerized data, including data entry and report generation for EMG services.

  • Communicates with patients about scheduling any answers any questions the patient may have about the procedure.
