Job Summary

Contribute to development, implementation and testing of neuronal visualization and analysis program, VND, developed and maintained by the Theoretical and Computational Biophysics Group (TCBG) at UIUC. The individual in this position will write code for VND and work closely with other programmers. VND is a recent addition to our software, allowing users to visualize neuron-level simulations and models in neuroscience research.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Implementing algorithms and software features in VND and associated software.
  • Document, test and debug software for release.
  • Contribute to publications, proposals and reports.
  • Survey and collaborate with users to identify and design needed software features.
  • Respond to questions and bug reports from users by email.
  • Contribute to workshops.

Minimum Qualifications

Master\'s degree in computer science, a physical or mathematical discipline or related experience. Relevant experience with software development. Experience with molecular, scientific, or data visualization and scientific or high performance computing.

Preferred Qualifications

PhD in computer science, a physical or mathematical discipline or related experience.

Managing complex software projects, defining and executing project goals.

Experience with tools and methods for software validation and testing, debugging and performance analysis.

Building and distributing multi-platform software (e.g. Linux, Windows, Mac).

3D graphics programming (e.g. OpenGL, Vulkan).

Data analysis and statistical methods.

High-performance computing on public clouds.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • C and C++ programming.
  • Knowledge of OpenGL, Tcl, Python.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the posting period closes. The salary for this position is \$71,000 - \$80,000/year. Final salary offered will be determined by a thorough assessment of available market data, internal salary equity, candidate experience and qualifications, collective bargaining agreements and budget constraints.
