Position Summary
The Assistant Director of Learning Services is responsible for coordinating support services provided to meet the accommodation needs of students with disabilities through the Office of Learning Services. Additionally, the incumbent will provide academic advising and advocacy for students with disabilities to enhance their academic success. Through personal contact and collaboration with faculty and other staff, the Assistant Director of Learning Services assists students with disabilities and academic needs to attain their educational goals. The Assistant Director of Learning Services works closely with the Director of Learning Services, the Captionist, and other Division of Student Success members in taking a holistic approach to support students.

Major Responsibilities
Coordinate the efficient functioning and effective delivery of support services for students with disabilities:
Review students’ disability information to assess needs and eligibility for accommodations
Consult with students about appropriate accommodations based on student’s disability information.
Assist students in navigating their accommodations.
Assess and track the number of students with disabilities eligible for “extended time” or “separate location.”
Monitor the reservations regularly to detect any problems with the reservation process or usage.
Assist as needed with sending out the exam notification emails to faculty.
Consult with the Director of Learning Services regularly to coordinate and anticipate any other support services for students with disabilities.Meet with first year students regularly in their first semester. Meet with other students as needed.
Provide academic advising and advocacy for students with disabilities.
Meet regularly with students to guide and support the development of their self-awareness, self-determination, and self-advocacy skills.
Consult regularly with faculty and other staff to build networks of collaborative relationships to support the advocacy role of Learning Services for students with disabilities.
Maintain student disability documentation and contact records.
Maintain confidentiality of student records.
Provide advising for students with academic needs
Provide referrals for counseling or other services as appropriate.
Maintain an on-going dialogue with the other members of the Division of Student Success in support of student academic achievement and retention.
Collect and report data necessary for the Director of Learning Services to assess effectiveness of support services, advising interactions, student academic progress, and program outcomes.
Actively participate in Office of Learning Services and Division of Student Success staff meetings
Assist the Director with assessment initiatives for the Office of Learning Services
Assist in the development and implementation of the objectives and the goals of the Office of Learning Services and the Division of Student Success.
Attend Utica University functions, including commencement and orientation, and be supportive of University-sponsored events and programs.
Participate in professional development opportunities as recommended by the Director of Learning Services.
Participate and engage in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion ( DEI ) initiatives and programs, including but not limited to serving on DEI committees, serving as a diversity advocate or community liaison for a job search, advising a club, facilitating DEI -related training, and engagement in institutional cultural and celebratory events and programming.
Take an active role in the development of the department’s strategic and operational plans as required by department leadership. Work closely with department supervisor to develop and implement operational goals that support departmental success.
May perform other related duties as assigned.

Education & Experience Qualifications
Master’s degree required. Degree should be in education, disability services, counseling, social work, or related field.
Knowledge of the regulations that govern the provision of student disability services in a University environment is necessary.
Experience providing advising and support to students with disabilities and other students in need of academic support services in a University environment is desirable.
Minimum Skills/Abilities
Ability to work effectively with a diverse student population.
Must be able to work flexible hours if necessary.
Evidence of strong organizational, self-motivational, and interpersonal skills.
A strong commitment to diversity and work continually to enhance diversity of our students, faculty, and staff.
Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, required.
Working knowledge of Microsoft software (such as Word, Excel) required.
